717. Satan\u2019s Many Parts<\/p>\n
Some years ago, at the Playgoers\u2019 Club, a Mr. Osman Edwards delivered an address on \u201cStage Fiends.\u201d In his dramatic career, said Mr. Edwards, as the devil he had played many parts\u2014a Hebrew valet, an Indian sage, a Catholic monster, a Protestant buffoon, an Elizabethan mischief-maker, a Dutch politician, a Spanish professor, a German sceptic, a Shelleian saint, and a Corellian contradiction.<\/p>\n
The Bible shows that Satan can play many parts, and among the principal parts he plays are the following seven:<\/p>\n
1. He is the Devil to deceive\u2014Rev_20:10.<\/p>\n
2. He is the adversary (Satan) to accuse\u2014Luk_22:31.<\/p>\n
3. He is an angel of light to misrepresent\u20142Co_11:14.<\/p>\n
4. He is an enemy to oppose\u2014Mat_13:28, Mat_13:39.<\/p>\n
5. He is the hinderer to deter\u20141Th_2:18.<\/p>\n
6. He is the god of this age to blind\u20142Co_4:4.<\/p>\n
7. He is the tempter to allure\u2014Luk_4:2; 1Th_3:5.<\/p>\n
