829. The Ideal Church<\/p>\n
The ideal Church as revealed in the New Testament, like the New Jerusalem, has twelve gates to it.<\/p>\n
1. The Christship of Jesus is the Foundation of the Church. \u201cThou art the Christ… Upon this rock will I build My Church\u201d (Mat_16:18).<\/p>\n
2. The Blood of Christ is the Atoning Price of the Church. \u201cThe Church… which He purchased with His own Blood\u201d (Act_20:28).<\/p>\n
3. The Holy Spirit is the Administrator of the Church, hence, He sets \u201cin the Church\u201d His gifts, severally as He will (1Co_12:28).<\/p>\n
4. The ascended Lord is the Head of the Church, His mystical body\u2014Eph_1:23; Eph_5:23.<\/p>\n
5. Love is the Motive and Moving Power of the Church, hence, the members are to love each other \u201cas Christ loved the Church\u201d (Eph_5:2, Eph_5:5, Eph_5:25).<\/p>\n
6. Prayer is the Life of the Church, the power that brings release, even as it did to imprisoned Peter, when prayer was \u201cmade without ceasing of the Church unto God\u201d (Act_12:5).<\/p>\n
7. Worship of the Lord is the Privilege of the Church, and Christ is ever the One who in the midst of the Church leads her in praise to God\u2014Heb_2:12; and the Church is responsible, as well as privileged, to \u201ccome together\u201d to remember the Lord\u2019s death\u20141Co_11:18-26.<\/p>\n
8. Edification, or building each other up, is the Rule of the Church, hence, the keynote of all ministry in the Church\u20141Co_14:5, 1Co_14:12, 1Co_14:19.<\/p>\n
9. Unity of action is the Responsibility of the Church, hence, there are to be no schisms in the body, but each member is to tarry for one another, and hold the Head by recognising the members in mutual helps and assemblage\u2014Eph_2:18-22; Eph_4:16.<\/p>\n
10. The truth of God is in the Custody of the Church, hence, the Church of God is the pillar and ground of the truth\u20141Ti_3:15.<\/p>\n
11. God Himself is the Centre and Circumference of the Church, hence, the titles by which it is called, and the place where it is found. It is called \u201cthe Church of God,\u201d \u201cthe Church in God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ,\u201d \u201cthe Church of the Firstborn\u201d (1Co_1:2; 1Th_1:1; Heb_12:23).<\/p>\n
12. The glory of God is the End of the Church, hence, it displays His manifest wisdom and is to be to His manifested glory\u2014Eph_3:10, Eph_3:21; Eph_5:27.<\/p>\n
