906. True Delight<\/p>\n
Seven times the Psalmist speaks of delighting in God\u2019s Word in Psalms 119.<\/p>\n
1. Resolution. \u201cI will delight myself in Thy statutes\u201d (Psa_119:16). When we make up our mind to any given thing, let us mind the thing to which we have consented.<\/p>\n
2. Concentration. \u201cThy testimonies also are my delight\u201d (Psa_119:24). Concentration on God\u2019s Word in the midst of opposition\u2014see Psa_119:23, ever leads to benediction\u2014Jer_15:16.<\/p>\n
3. Compulsion. \u201cMake me to go in the path of Thy commandments, for therein do I delight\u201d (Psa_119:35). Love easily counsels when the heart is willing to be compelled.<\/p>\n
4. Affection. \u201cI will delight myself in Thy commandments, which I have loved\u201d (Psa_119:47). The only fuel which will feed the fire of love is God\u2019s Word, and when that is fed the sacrifice of pleasure in God\u2019s will is ever the outcome.<\/p>\n
5. Opposition. \u201cTheir heart is as fat as grease, but I delight in Thy law\u201d (Psa_119:70). Fatty sinners are ever against flourishing saints. The doings of ungodly men should make us the more determined to do God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n
6. Supplication. \u201cLet Thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live, for thy law is my delight\u201d (Psa_119:77). Prayer for \u201cmercies,\u201d and faith to believe they are \u201ctender,\u201d are sure to come to those whose hearts are right with the Lord by delighting in His Word.<\/p>\n
7. Salvation. \u201cI have longed for Thy salvation, for Thy law is my delight\u201d (Psa_119:174). The reason why he longed for God\u2019s salvation is because he had a heart and a life to obey God\u2019s law.<\/p>\n
