{"id":31353,"date":"2022-09-10T15:27:01","date_gmt":"2022-09-10T20:27:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/religious-americans-see-pandemic-as-sign-from-god\/"},"modified":"2022-09-10T15:27:01","modified_gmt":"2022-09-10T20:27:01","slug":"religious-americans-see-pandemic-as-sign-from-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/religious-americans-see-pandemic-as-sign-from-god\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious Americans See Pandemic as Sign From God"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">engin akyurt photo &#8211; Unsplash <\/p>\n<p><em>By Aaron Earls<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the coronavirus outbreak has caused church buildings to close across the country, most religious Americans believe God is still speaking and He\u2019s using the pandemic to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Lifeway Research found 9 in 10 Protestant churches did not physically gather during the month of April.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, a recent Associated Press survey found 63% of Americans who believe in God say He, through the pandemic, is telling humanity to change the way we are living.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Black Americans (73%) and Hispanic Americans (65%) are more likely than white Americans (48%) to believe God is using the coronavirus to communicate the need for lifestyle changes.<\/p>\n<div class='code-block code-block-1' style='margin: 8px 0;clear: both'> <\/div>\n<p>Still, when asked about causes of the current coronavirus situation, only 11% of Americans pointed the finger at human sinfulness.<\/p>\n<p>Few Americans have changed their opinion of God\u2019s existence because of COVID-19\u20142% now believe in God when they didn\u2019t before, and less than 1% say they no longer believe.<\/p>\n<p>Four in 5 Americans (80%) say they believed in God before the outbreak and still do today, while 17% did not believe and still don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the coronavirus outbreak has impacted their faith, almost 3 in 4 Americans (73%) say it has remained the same.<\/p>\n<p>A quarter (26%) say their faith has grown stronger during the pandemic, and only 1% say it has grown weaker.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>A recent Pew Research survey found similar results, with 24% of Americans saying their faith has grown stronger as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Evangelicals (42%) and historically black Protestants (56%) are more likely to say their faith is stronger than mainline Protestants (22%) or Catholics (27%).<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;margin-top:0em;margin-bottom:1em\">\n<div class=\"centered-text-area\">\n<div class=\"centered-text\" style=\"float: left\">\n<div class=\"u86fa46e6606fc00c192fdf3789335f95-content\">See also&nbsp; What Do Churchgoers Want to Change About Their Churches?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ctaButton\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Those who attend church more frequently are also more likely to say their faith has been strengthened during this time.<\/p>\n<p>In the AP study, more than half of religious Americans (55%) say they believe God will protect them from being infected by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>White evangelicals (67%) are more likely to believe in divine protection than other Americans who believe in God (53%).<\/p>\n<p>Few Americans who say they believe in God are doubting God exists (14%) or think He has abandoned humanity (9%) because of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AARON EARLS (@WardrobeDoor)<\/strong>&nbsp;is online editor of&nbsp;Facts &amp; Trends.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-box su-box-style-default\" id=\"\" style=\"border-color:#000000;border-radius:0px\">\n<div class=\"su-box-title\" style=\"background-color:#333333;color:#FFFFFF;border-top-left-radius:0px;border-top-right-radius:0px\">Dig Deeper at Lifeway.com<\/div>\n<div class=\"su-box-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"border-bottom-left-radius:0px;border-bottom-right-radius:0px\">\n<div class=\"one-third first\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"two-thirds\">\n<h2>An Act of God?
