Here are a few tips to help you along the way:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote the activities to everyone in the community. Encourage your members to bring their unchurched friends.<\/li>\n<li>Host a few events throughout the summer\u2014maybe one a month\u2014to build a bridge to visitors and hopefully keep them coming.<\/li>\n<li>Follow-up after the event is vital, so make sure you get visitors\u2019 names and contact information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get Outside<\/h3>\n<p>Think \u201coutside the church\u201d as you plan summer events. Many of your neighbors are already outside, so why not take the activities to them. <\/p>\n<p>Plan community-wide events on your beautiful church lawn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Citywide Father\u2019s Day cookout and outdoor worship service\u2014\u201cBring your dad and a lawn chair!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Citywide kite-flying contest or \u201cBiggest Water-Sprinkler Party in Avon\u201d event for preschoolers or elementary kids.<\/li>\n<li>Move your Sunday evening worship outdoors.<\/li>\n<li>A concert on the lawn or a weekly outdoor fellowship. Use tiki lights, have live Christian music, and serve bottled sodas in huge tubs of ice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Summer outreach in the church parking lot:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Host a citywide July 4th bicycle parade.<\/li>\n<li>Drive-through registration for Vacation Bible School (VBS) or kids\u2019 camps.<\/li>\n<li>Host an outdoor Movie Night. Invite people to bring blankets and lawn chairs, serve popcorn, and project the movie on an outside wall or large screen.<\/li>\n<li>Teens serve free drive-through snow cones. No donations; just invite them to Sunday worship.<\/li>\n<li>Host a community service day such as blood drive or food collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Take ministry to other outdoor locations.<\/p>\n<div class='code-block code-block-1' style='margin: 8px 0;clear: both'> <\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Have the church softball team\u2019s dugout banner read, \u201cJoin us at Journey Church, Sunday, 11 a.m.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Perform a second presentation of your youth drama or musical in a nearby park. Be sure to get the appropriate permit.<\/li>\n<li>Offer a VBS as an apartment ministry and outreach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"clear:both;margin-top:0em;margin-bottom:1em\">\n<div class=\"centered-text-area\">\n<div class=\"centered-text\" style=\"float: left\">\n<div class=\"ub574612a05bbcabc572749672ef23ff5-content\">See also&nbsp; What Churches Must Do to Reach Gen Z<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ctaButton\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tip: Every outdoor event must display a banner invitation, such as \u201cFree Ice Cream &amp; Live Music Sunday at 6 p.m. Join us!\u201d <\/p>\n<h3>Get Creative<br \/> <\/h3>\n<p>Here are some ideas to help you brainstorm unique summer outreach ideas:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newspaper ad: \u201cBring Dad to church on Father\u2019s Day\u2014Free photo!\u201d Create an attractive photo site. The volunteer photographer uses a tripod to quickly snap a photo of each dad and child. Post photos on the website for downloading or print them before worship ends.<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s your town\u2019s biggest summer event? Be there! Set up a diaper changing station at the city festival. Pick up trash after the 4th of July parade or fireworks celebration. Build a fabulous float for a parade. Serve water at the mini-marathon.<\/li>\n<li>Our church\u2019s \u201cKids\u2019 Art Camp\u201d was a huge hit in our town. A registration fee covered supplies. Artists in our church taught a variety of mediums, and art focused on God\u2019s creations. The city library displayed a big sculpture kids created.<\/li>\n<li>Summer offers a brief, high-impact time for outreach to people in your town who don\u2019t know Jesus as Lord. With a little creativity and local promotion, your church can make summer the time for community building and outreach.
