One Arizona city refuses to go for the gold.<\/p>\n

A new McDonald’s branch opened in Sedona but without the iconic golden arches. Instead, this outlet sports a turquoise letter M on the side of the building.<\/p>\n

According to a Sept. 2, 2014, story in the UK’s Daily Mirror<\/em>, “The move came about after officials in Arizona said the restaurant would not be allowed to open unless the corporation came up with a compromise. Strict laws in the city of Sedona state that no building is allowed to ruin the views of the state’s surrounding desert.”<\/p>\n

This is the first time a McDonald’s restaurant has opened its doors without the yellow logo, but it is not the only unusual outlet within the fast-food firm’s 30,000 branches.<\/p>\n

“The most surprising location you can find a McDonald’s,” according to the Daily Mirror<\/em>, “would be the one located within notorious detention camp Guantanamo Bay. Surrounded by barbed wire, it doesn’t look particularly inviting, despite the blue skies and palm trees in the background. The outlet is only accessible to the base’s personnel and is the only McDonald’s in Cuba.”<\/div>\n
