This is an excellent question for every Christian to ask themselves. We will consider “roles” as our “daily behaviors.” Our Lord said, “If any man<\/em> will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily<\/strong>, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) <\/p>\n

First, we are to deny ourselves<\/strong>, leave the selfish thinking, self-gratification and self-centered ways behind. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is<\/em> in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:15-17 <\/p>\n

Second, we take up our cross<\/strong>. We need to be willing to suffer for righteousness and for being a follower of Jesus. “If we suffer we shall also reign with him: if we deny him he also will deny us.” 2 Timothy 2:12<\/p>\n

Third, we are to follow Jesus<\/strong> focusing on having God’s will done in our lives<\/strong>. Jesus was in total harmony with His Father. “I came down from heaven not to do mine own will but the will of him that sent me.” (John 6:38) He let God’s will permeate his thinking, “I can of my own self do nothing, as I hear, I judge and my judgment is just because I seek not mine own will but the will of the Father which has sent me.” (John 5:30)<\/p>\n

Jesus’ teachings were from the Father. “… my doctrine is not mine but his that sent me.” (John 7:16) Jesus encouraged his followers to be very familiar with the Bible. “Search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life and they are which testify of me.” (John 5:39) Such was the practice of the early church, “they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures<\/strong> daily <\/strong>whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11)<\/p>\n

As far as possible every day we should interact and encourage other Christians.<\/strong> “Exhort one another daily <\/strong>… lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” (Hebrews 3:13)<\/p>\n

Another very important admonition is to pray daily<\/strong> and realize our own dependance on our God and offer thanks.  In our Lord’s prayer it says, “Give us this day our daily<\/strong> bread.” (Luke 11:3) Two Old Testament examples come to mind.  Daniel prayed, upon his knees three times a day. (Daniel 6:10) David remembered God’s goodness. “Seven times a day do I praise you because of your righteous judgments.” (Psalm 119:164)<\/p>\n
