History records that the Assyrians were ruthless and cruel to their captives. Sadly, parts of Judea were under Assyrian control.&nbsp;\u200b<\/p>\n<p>In God&#039;s judgment, it was time to avenge His people from Assyrian oppression.&nbsp; Nahum described the power and devastation that would come through God&rsquo;s anger.&nbsp;During this destruction, Nahum 1:7 <strong>assures those who trust in Him<\/strong>, that <strong>God will provide safety <\/strong>and refuge for them.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>This promise can also apply to us in <strong>our day<\/strong>. The Bible tells us of a great impending time of trouble when God will take vengeance upon all unrighteousness. &ldquo;For then there will be a<strong> great tribulation<\/strong>, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will,&rdquo; Matthew 24:21,22 (NASB).&nbsp;&nbsp;\u200b<\/p>\n<p>We are told in Haggai 2:6, 7 (NIV), &ldquo;This is what the LORD Almighty says: &lsquo;In a little while <strong>I will once more shake<\/strong> the <strong>heavens<\/strong> (spiritual control and false religions) and the<strong> earth <\/strong>(earth&rsquo;s governments, societies, organizations), the<strong> sea<\/strong> (anarchistic and restless masses) and the<strong> dry land<\/strong> (preferred habitat of demons, Matthew 12:43). I will shake all nations, and <strong>what is desired by all nations will come (Christ&rsquo;s righteous kingdom)<\/strong>.&rsquo;&rdquo;&nbsp;\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Anything that can be shaken (is sinful) will be removed (Hebrews 12:26).&nbsp; Therefore, it is good for us to make sure God is our refuge and our stronghold. God has promised He will never forsake His children.
