Does God tell us not to live to lavishly?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>The Bible indicates that the <strong>Jesus sometimes stayed in a house, but it is not stated that he owned the house.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;&hellip;Jesus saw them following and asked, &lsquo;What do you want?&rsquo; They said, &lsquo;Rabbi&rsquo; (which means &lsquo;Teacher&rsquo;), &lsquo;where are you staying?&rsquo; &lsquo;Come,&rsquo; he replied, &lsquo;and you will see.&rsquo; So they went and saw where he was staying&hellip;&rdquo; John 1:38-39 (NIV)<br \/> &ldquo;Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum&hellip;&rdquo; Matthew 4:13(NIV)<br \/> &ldquo;A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.&rdquo; Mark 2:1(NIV)<\/p>\n<p>As a perfect human being, <strong>Jesus&rsquo; main purpose was to sacrifice his human life to ransom Adam<\/strong> (and all his children) from death. (1 Corinthians 15:22, 1 Timothy 2:5,6.) He was not trying to accumulate earthly possessions, so where He lived was probably an act of someone&rsquo;s hospitality.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And Jesus said to him, &lsquo;Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the <strong>Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head<\/strong>.&rsquo;&rdquo; Matthew 8:20 (ESV) This verse would certainly indicate that <strong>Jesus did not own a permanent residence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that <strong>Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in the country<\/strong>; and people came to him from every quarter.&rdquo; Mark 1:45 (RSV) Due to Jesus&rsquo; popularity, he needed to live in the country. These verses do not tell us whether he lived at someone&rsquo;s country house or lived out in nature.<\/p>\n<p>What could be a lesson for us?<br \/> &ldquo;Is it&nbsp;time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple&nbsp;to lie&nbsp;in ruins?&rdquo; Haggai 1:4<\/p>\n<p>Daily, we need to be aware that our homes, money, cars, etc. are <strong>not ours but the&nbsp; Lord&rsquo;s<\/strong>. By His grace, we have received these blessings, so we need to use our material possessions in His service and to help those in need. <strong>God expects us to use our talents (which include our &ldquo;riches&rdquo;) to bless others<\/strong>. Please see the parable of the pound (Luke 19:11-27) and the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). God will judge us as to how we use our blessings.
