{"id":36805,"date":"2022-09-13T13:11:28","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T18:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/was-judas-guilty-for-the-role-he-played-in-the-arrest-of-jesus-christ\/"},"modified":"2022-09-13T13:11:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-13T18:11:28","slug":"was-judas-guilty-for-the-role-he-played-in-the-arrest-of-jesus-christ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/was-judas-guilty-for-the-role-he-played-in-the-arrest-of-jesus-christ\/","title":{"rendered":"Was Judas guilty for the role he played in the arrest of Jesus Christ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p><strong>Yes.&nbsp;<\/strong> We learn from our Lord&#039;s own words that Judas was guilty.&nbsp; Matthew 26:24 and Mark 14:21 both state, &ldquo;The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.&nbsp; But <strong>woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man!&nbsp; It would be better for him if he had not been born<\/strong>.&rdquo;&nbsp; Matthew adds (verse 25), &ldquo;Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, &lsquo;Surely, not I, Rabbi?&rsquo;&nbsp; Jesus answered, &lsquo;Yes, it is you.&rsquo; &rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently Judas had <strong>played the part of a good disciple<\/strong>, and when our Lord first announced that someone would betray Him, none of the other disciples seemed to suspect Judas.&nbsp; Each gospel records their surprise and confusion. (Matthew 26:21,22; Mark 14:18,19; Luke 22:22,23; and John 13:21,22)<\/p>\n<p>Matthew 26:24 (quoted earlier) tells us two things: 1)&nbsp; Jesus knew he would be betrayed and by whom. 2)&nbsp; He warns the potential evildoer about the dire consequences and <strong>gives him a chance to change his mind<\/strong>.&nbsp; Verse 25 shows the <strong>deceitfulness of Judas<\/strong>, who continues to play the part of an innocent disciple.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Judas repented when he saw Jesus was condemned, and he even attempted to return the 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 27:3-5).&nbsp; Maybe Judas wanted Jesus to be &ldquo;only&rdquo; arrested and humiliated, not sentenced to death.&nbsp; (We know Jesus had warned his disciples of His impending death, but &ldquo;they did not understand what he meant&hellip;&rdquo;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"background-position: center center;border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;border-color:#eae9e9;border-style:solid\">\n<div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start\" style=\"width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;max-width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;margin-left: calc(-0px \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-0px \/ 2 )\">\n<div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column fusion-flex-align-self-flex-start fusion-column-no-min-height\">\n<div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\" style=\"background-position:left top;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px\">[Mark 9:32] ). However, when Judas realized Jesus was sentenced to death, after trying unsuccessfully to undo his wicked deed, <strong>he should have fallen on his knees and begged forgiveness from God<\/strong>.&nbsp; Instead he committed suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the reason Judas had for getting Jesus arrested, it showed his hardness of heart and deceitful nature.
