{"id":36855,"date":"2022-09-13T13:13:34","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T18:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/what-is-a-christian\/"},"modified":"2022-09-13T13:13:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-13T18:13:34","slug":"what-is-a-christian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/sermons\/what-is-a-christian\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Christian?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>Scriptures are quoted from the New International Version Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Today the term &ldquo;Christian&rdquo; is typically used to name a person who is a believer in Jesus Christ, usually in the sense of distinguishing that person from people of other religions.&nbsp; However, the true meaning of &ldquo;Christian&rdquo; is to be a <strong>follower of Christ<\/strong>. &ldquo;Jesus said, &lsquo;My sheep listen to my voice&#8230; and <strong>they follow me.<\/strong>&rsquo; &rdquo;&nbsp; (John 10:27)&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To become a Christian, a person must first recognize he is a sinner, believe Jesus died for his sins, and give his whole life and heart to God to obey His will. (I Peter 3:18, Hebrews 10:7, Proverbs 23:10)<\/p>\n<p>A few of our Lord&rsquo;s instructions are as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Whoever wants to be my disciple must <strong>deny themselves<\/strong> and <strong>take up their cross<\/strong> and follow me.&rdquo; (Matthew 16:24); &ldquo;<strong>Love your enemies<\/strong>&rdquo; (Matthew 5:44); do <strong>good deeds in secret<\/strong> (Matthew 6:1-4); <strong>forgive others<\/strong> (Matthew 6:15). &ldquo;<strong>Seek first <\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"background-position: center center;border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;border-color:#eae9e9;border-style:solid\">\n<div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start\" style=\"width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;max-width:calc( 100% + 0px ) !important;margin-left: calc(-0px \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-0px \/ 2 )\">\n<div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column fusion-flex-align-self-flex-start fusion-column-no-min-height\">\n<div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\" style=\"background-position:left top;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px\">[God&#039;s] kingdom and his righteousness<\/strong>&rdquo; and God will take care of your necessities. (Matthew 6:33)<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Christians &ldquo;<strong>correctly<\/strong> handle(s) the <strong>word of truth<\/strong>&rdquo; (II Timothy 2:15) and accept that &ldquo;all scripture is God-breathed&rdquo; (II Timothy 3:16). Christians &ldquo;<strong>resist the devil<\/strong>&rdquo; and do their best to &ldquo;<strong>purify [their] hearts<\/strong>&rdquo; (James 4:7,8).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Christians have <strong>special promises<\/strong> which will be fulfilled at their resurrection:<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said, &ldquo;If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me&hellip;&quot;&nbsp; (John 14:3)&nbsp; &ldquo;To him who overcomes, I will give <strong>the right to sit with me on my throne<\/strong>&hellip;&rdquo; (Revelation 3:21)<\/p>\n<p>Christians will be &ldquo;<strong>co-heirs with Christ<\/strong>, if indeed [they] <strong>share in his sufferings<\/strong>&rdquo; They will share in His glory (Romans 8:17).&nbsp; They know that &quot;the creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed&quot; and look forward to the time when &quot;the creation itself will be liberated&#8230; and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God&quot; (Romans 8:19-21).&nbsp; If faithful, the consecrated Christian will <strong>reign in the resurrection<\/strong>, <strong>blessing those raised to life on earth<\/strong>.&nbsp; (Revelation 5:10)<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scriptures are quoted from the New International Version Bible.
