However, the ordinance preceded the law and was first practiced by Abraham.&nbsp; When Jesus, their promised Messiah, fulfilled the Law, the Law came to an end and the aspects of&nbsp; the promises to Abraham came to fulfillment. (Matthew 5:17, Colossians 2:13-17) But Christian believers are not required to be circumcised in the flesh. So, what is meant by the &ldquo;circumcision of Christ&rdquo;?<\/p>\n<p>Romans 2:29, &ldquo;&hellip;<strong>circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter<\/strong>&hellip;&rdquo; Literal circumcision cut off the flesh. Similarly, spiritual circumcision involves the denial (cutting off) of our flesh and its desires in order to serve God. &ldquo;<strong>Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart<\/strong>&hellip;&rdquo; Deuteronomy 10:16. We are to circumcise our natural hearts&rsquo; desires and are to seek the spiritual with heavenly hopes. &ldquo;For <strong>we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit<\/strong>, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.&rdquo; Philippians 3:3<\/p>\n<p>Remember: Self-denial is essential to be a follower of Christ. &ldquo;If any <strong>man come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me<\/strong>.&rdquo; Matthew 16:24.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Circumcision was a requirement for male Israelites under the Law.
