The purpose of the ministry of Jesus was to try to convince the Jews that He was the son of God and their Messiah<\/strong>. The scribes and Pharisees had taught them the Law, but once Messiah had come, the law would be superseded, to be replaced by a "new and living way." Hebrews 10:20  KJV<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Galatians 3:21-27 explains:  "Then the Law is contrary to God's promises?  Never!  Had there been any law which had the power of producing life, righteousness would really have been due to the law; but Scripture has consigned all without exception to the custody of sin<\/strong>, in order that the promise due to faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who have faith. Before this faith came, we were confined by the Law and kept under custody, in prospect of the faith that was to be revealed; the Law thus held us as wards in discipline, till such time as Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But faith has come, and we are wards no longer; you are<\/strong> all sons of God by your faith in Christ Jesus<\/strong> (for all of you who had yourselves baptized into Christ have taken on the character of Christ.)" However, "He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him<\/strong>. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."  John 1:11, 12 NIV<\/p>\n

Even His own apostles required proof<\/strong> that He was indeed the promised one, as when over 5,000 people needed to be fed in John 6:5-14. Philip tended to think in a business-like manner, but the miracle of the loaves and fishes convinced him and helped to raise his mind to a spiritual level.   Jesus told His disciples to gather up the twelve baskets of leftovers.  They then, "Seeing what signs he wrought, began to say, This is of a truth, the prophet who was to come into the world."  Rotherham translation<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
