It is a beautiful description of how God takes care of His children; those who seek the Lord. “They shall not want any good thing.”

“The young lions do lack and suffer hunger.” There are people in the world who, like the lions, think they have no need of a Savior or God in their life. They look for their happiness in the world but find no satisfaction.

Jesus taught us how to meet our true needs. "And seek not what you will eat, or what you will drink, neither be doubtful of mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things. But seek the kingdom of God; and all these things will be added to you." Luke 12:29-31

It is important to understand the difference between God's blessings of His people in the Old Testament and the New Testament. In 1 Kings 3:13 we read how God blessed King Solomon with worldly riches: "I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days." Yet, when it came to His own son, Jesus, we read in Matthew 8:20: "And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has no where to lay his head.”

Additionally, Jesus said in Matthew 10:38: "And he that taketh not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me."

So, how does God take care of the person following Jesus? What are the blessings of a Christian? When we dedicate our life to following Jesus, we receive the gift of God's holy spirit. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13) The purpose of this gift is to transform us into Christ’s likeness and to develop the fruits of the holy spirit. Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.”

Reading further in Psalm 34 verses 15 and 17, the Lord says “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. . . .The righteous cry, and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” These Scriptures are an encouragement and promise of God's tender care to all those seeking to follow Jesus’ example.

This verse illustrates the contrast between God’s people and non-Christians.
