Nevertheless, using salvaged building materials which they had planned to use for constructing dwellings in the New World, the Pilgrims were able to arrive in Massachusetts in Mid-November, just in time for a harsh New England winter. As our ancient forebears dwelling in Goshen ignored warning signs to get out of their situation earlier, the Pilgrims undoubtedly ignored warning signs too. The Jews in Europe during the 1930’s probably ignored warning signs as well. As God’s called out ones, we must remember that we are temporary inhabitants in an alien culture, and must be ready to move when the times are no longer propitious for our safety. Our forebears, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, were also pilgrims. They were continually on the move, having never seen their permanent habitation except in visionary terms. As pilgrims, we are to travel light, not becoming entrapped with the culture of the country in which we live, getting rid of all excess weights that will hinder our pilgrimage. We should systematically extricate ourselves from attachments to this world, trudging ahead on our pilgrimage to God’s Kingdom. <\/p>\n
