Isaiah emphasizes that sin causes intense suffering in our life, finally culminating in death. Hebrews 9:28 repeats Isaiah&#8217;s description of Christ carrying the burden of sins. I Peter 2:24 indicates that Christ bore these sins in agony on a tree that was situated outside of the temple, away from the city, symbolic of the wilderness where the &quot;fit man&quot; led the azazel. In this role, the Messiah becomes accursed for our cumulative sins.
