As Moses’ older sister, she bravely, at about age 6 or 7, saved her brother’s life by hiding the basket in which he lay in the bathing location occupied by Pharaoh’s daughter who protected him from execution. Miriam later led Pharaoh’s daughter to Moses’ mother who nursed him. While Moses grew up in the palace of Pharaoh, Miriam remained a slave. As the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, Miriam, at the age of 90, composed the Song of Moses, giving God the credit for leading Israel to safety. Sadly, in Numbers 11:1, Miriam allowed her disdain of Moses’ marriage to the Ethiopian woman to show disrespect for God’s anointed leader. We learn three important lessons about Miriam: 1.) it does not matter how old one is to qualify as a hero, 2.) we need to recognize that God has delivered us from our bondage to sin, and 3.) it is never a good idea to gossip about someone behind his back. Miriam, having the extremes of despair and hope, resembles every one of us-potential leaders. Thankfully, when she learned her lesson about pride, Miriam achieved the same exalted stature as Moses and Aaron. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Sermonette: Miriam: Prophetess and Leader #1621s Ted E.
