Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Isaiah 2:1-4. A very striking picture of the church, from 700 BC.<\/p>\n

2. Old Testament prophecies tell us much, later to be seen in fulfillment in the New Testament.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I.   First, A Point Or Two About The Prophets And Their Prophecies.<\/h2>\n

A. Men sent to their own generation to teach, warn and rebuke as to the sins of the day; they emphasized a RETURN TO GOD!<\/p>\n

B. They kept alive the picture of the coming Messiah and His kingdom — “they … showed before the coming of the Just One…”<\/em> (Acts 7:52).<\/p>\n

II.  In Isaiah 2 We Have One of the Best-Known, And Fuller, Pictures Of The New Testament Order Of Things.<\/h2>\n

A. Isaiah, one of themost-cited Old Testament Prophets in the New Testament.<\/p>\n

B. Thus, called the “Messianic”<\/em> prophet.<\/p>\n

C. Isaiah is the one to speak of the coming Lord (9:6), His government (9:7), His virgin birth (7:14), and His being the suffering Servant (Isa. 53).<\/p>\n

III. Now, The Picture In Isaiah 2.<\/h2>\n

A. A picture of the New Testament Age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1. In “the last days”<\/em> (v. 2).<\/p>\n

2. The days in which God’s son speaks (Heb. 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

3. Peter sees fulfillment of Joel — Acts 2:17.<\/p>\n

B. A picture of The Church Of The Lord<\/strong> (v. 2).<\/p>\n

1. The “mountain of the Lord’s house to be established”<\/em> yet, such already existed in Israel — in Judah, in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

2. Something yet future, then, to be exalted.<\/p>\n

3. We see the church pictured as the Lord’s house (1 Tim. 3:15), and those making up the church called the temple of God (1 Cor. 3:9 — God’s building; v. 16, the temple of God).<\/p>\n

C. A picture of That To Embrace All Nations<\/strong> (v. 2).<\/p>\n

1. The Old Testament system for the Jews — Gentiles excluded.<\/p>\n

2. Isaiah, writing under the system only for the Jews, then points to God’s great future house, and “all nations shall flow unto it”<\/em> (v. 2)<\/p>\n

3. The Great Commission thus embraces the thought — the whole world (Mark 16:15-16), and salvation (Rom. 1:16). “Other sheep”<\/em> — not of the Jewish fold (John 10:16).<\/p>\n

D. A picture of a New Law, Going From Jerusalem<\/strong> (v. 3).<\/p>\n

1. Many people (all nations) to go and learn the will of the Lord. A law will go forth from Zion (and not Sinai) — the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

2. Acts 2, the gospel proclaimed in the name if the resurrected Lord.<\/p>\n

E. A picture of the Rule Of Peace<\/strong> (v. 4).<\/p>\n

1. Jesus, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6).<\/p>\n

2. Bringing peace to men, and turning men to peaceful endeavors. A warfare, to be sure (2 Cor. 10:3-5), but one spiritual in nature.<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Men are added to that kingdom, the church, upon obedience (Acts 2:47).<\/p>\n

2. Faith, repentance, confession, and baptism are the terms upon which one can come to, and into, that kingdom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
