Blessed Assurance<\/strong> Sermon — One of the greatest things that the child of God enjoys is confidence. It can help him endure the turmoils of this life.<\/p>\n

Introduction:<\/p>\n

A. “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.”<\/p>\n

1. One of the greatest things that the faithful child of God enjoys is blessed assurance.<\/p>\n

2. A faithful child of God can have a confidence that will help him endure the turmoils of this life<\/p>\n

3. Isnt it reassuring to know that if you were to die tonight that you would be safe in the arms of Jesus? BUT: …<\/p>\n

a. There are many though who do not have this assurance?<\/p>\n

b. There are some who do not have confidence…<\/p>\n

B. The Bible teaches that we can have security of the soul, a true inner peace and a blessed assurance.<\/p>\n

1. 2 Timothy 1:7 … no fear because of assurance<\/p>\n

2. 2 Timothy 1:12 … we have an assurance of salvation<\/p>\n

3. Romans 8:38-39 … again, we have blessed assurance<\/em> of salvation<\/p>\n

4. Hebrews 6:11 … assurance of hope<\/p>\n

5. Romans 8:28 …<\/p>\n

C. Let us now at some ways we can have this blessed assurance.<\/p>\n

Discussion:<\/p>\n

A. ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BLESSED ASSURANCE IS KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH<\/h2>\n

1. Colossians 2:1-2<\/p>\n

a. Assurance comes from understanding<\/p>\n

b. Understanding comes from study<\/p>\n

2. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 … the gospel came in assurance and it brings assurance<\/p>\n

3. Hebrews 10:22<\/p>\n

a. We draw close to God when we have assurance of faith<\/p>\n

b. And, remember … Roman 10:17<\/p>\n

4. Thus if we want to be people who have blessed assurance, we must be people of the book<\/p>\n

a. 2 Timothy 2:15<\/p>\n

b. 1 Timothy 4:13<\/p>\n

B. THE BIBLE TEACHES WE CAN HAVE BLESSED ASSURANCE, HAVE CONFIDENCE:<\/h2>\n

1. Because of the cross<\/p>\n

a. Ephesians 2:13 …<\/p>\n

b. Ephesians 1:7 …<\/p>\n

c. John 3:16 …<\/p>\n

2. Because we are in Christ<\/p>\n

a. Notice the blessings that are found in Christ:<\/p>\n

1) 2 Corinthians 2:14 … We are triumphant in Christ<\/p>\n

2) 2 Corinthians 5:17 … We are a new creature in Christ<\/p>\n

3) All spiritual blessing are in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)<\/p>\n

4) Forgiveness of sins are found in Christ (Ephesians 1:7)<\/p>\n

5) We receive an inheritance in Christ (Ephesians 1:11)<\/p>\n

b. This is why being in Christ brings assurance<\/p>\n

c. How to we get into Christ that we have this blessed assurance?<\/p>\n

1) Galatians 3:27<\/p>\n

2) Romans 6:3-4<\/p>\n

3. Because we have an avenue of forgiveness<\/p>\n

a. God knew that after we were baptized, we would sin.<\/p>\n

1) Romans 3:23<\/p>\n

2) Not a soul can say “I am sinless,” or “I am perfect.”<\/p>\n

b. 1 John 1:7-10<\/p>\n

1) God does not expect us to be a perfect people, but He expects us to be a confessing people.<\/p>\n

2) If we use this avenue of forgiveness, then we have the assurance that we remain righteous before God<\/p>\n

4. Because we have the Bible which directs us to heaven<\/p>\n

a. God loved us so much that He not only sent His Son that we might be saved, but He also sent us His words to direct us to heaven.<\/p>\n

b. Gods word give us blessed assurance because:<\/p>\n

1) They are quick and powerful …<\/p>\n

a) Hebrews 4:12<\/p>\n

b) Romans 1:16<\/p>\n

2) They give light and understanding … “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalm 119:130)<\/p>\n

3) We cleaned and purified by it<\/p>\n

a) John 15:3<\/p>\n

b) 1 Peter 1:22<\/p>\n

4) It will save us …<\/p>\n

a) Acts 11:14<\/p>\n

b) Call the “word of salvation” in Acts 13:26<\/p>\n

5) It will not pass away<\/p>\n

a) Matthew 24:35<\/p>\n

b) 1 Peter 1:24-25<\/p>\n

5. Because we have the promise of God<\/p>\n

a. Not tempted above what we can withstand …<\/p>\n

1) 1 Corinthians 10:12<\/p>\n

2) 2 Peter 2:9<\/p>\n

b. We will be provided with what we need<\/p>\n

1) Matthew 6:33<\/p>\n

2) Psalm 37:25<\/p>\n

c. Salvation<\/p>\n

1) Hebrews 5:8-9<\/p>\n

2) Mark 16:16<\/p>\n

3) Revelation 2:10<\/p>\n

4) Matthew 10:22<\/p>\n

C. TO ENJOY TRUE BLESSED ASSURANCE WE MUST<\/h2>\n

1. Be obedient … 1 John 3:18-24<\/p>\n

2. Be steadfast … 1 Corinthians 15:58<\/p>\n

3. Be watchful and brave … 1 Corinthians 16:13<\/p>\n

4. Strong faith … Hebrews 10:22<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/p>\n

A. Do you have this blessed assurance?<\/p>\n

B. No greater joy can come to a person than having this blessed assurance.<\/p>\n

C. This blessed assurance:<\/p>\n

1. Is proclaimed in the Bible<\/p>\n

2. Is ours to enjoy<\/p>\n

a. If we are a Christian<\/p>\n

b. If we remain faithful<\/p>\n
