From Luke 24:25-27.

Date written: August 18th, 2005

Scripture ref: Luke 24:25-27

SUBJECT: Prophecy

TITLE: Messianic Prophecies Fulfilled

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will look at Old Testament prophecies regarding the Messiah quoted in the New Testament as being fulfilled. We will look at prophecies regarding the Messiah’s 1) Origins, 2) Ministry and Teaching, 3) Persecution and Death, 4) Triumph, 5) and eternal role in heaven.

Objectives: Each should understand the Messianic prophecies as fulfilled by Jesus and as quoted in the New Testament.

Aim: To show that Jesus fulfilled the Messianic prophecies that we may have renewed confidence that Jesus is the Messiah.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Luke 24:25-27

2. About the Text:

1) After Jesus’ resurrection he appeared to two men on the road to Emmaus.

2) They spoke with him, not knowing who he was.

3) They were discouraged because they thought Jesus was the Messiah and since his crucifixion they doubted.

4) Jesus opened the scriptures to them to teach them how all things were fulfilled.

5) When they arrived in Emmaus, he sat to eat with them and they knew who he was.

6) The fulfillment of the scriptures gave them renewed confidence in Jesus as Messiah.

3. Two kinds of prophecies.

1) There are the kinds of prophecies that we generally understand to be “prophetic.”

a. The miracle in these prophecies of Jesus is the foreknowledge.

2) There is, however, the kind of prophecy that was under the O.T. a mystery.

a. Romans 16:25,26

b. Ephesians 3:3-5

c. The miracle in these prophecies is that only God could reveal it.

4.
