TITLE: Sermon on Godliness – Christian Godliness Part 1<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: The plan of salvation is how a man becomes godly.<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVE: To teach that the five steps to salvation is adequate to make a man godly.<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Read: Titus 2:11,12<\/p>\n
2. About the Text:<\/p>\n
1) In this context<\/p>\n
2) Sobriety is the right attitude toward one’s self.<\/p>\n
3) Righteousness is the right attitude toward our fellow man.<\/p>\n
4) This morning we are to discuss how a man becomes godly. This is from the Greek word “eusebeia”. This means reverence, respect, piety towards God.<\/p>\n
5) Our discussion this morning will center on becoming Godly. Tonight we will discuss remaining Godly.<\/p>\n
DISCUSSION: Showing piety, reverence toward God involves becoming into a state in which we can show piety and reverence toward God<\/p>\n
I. An accountable person who has not obeyed the gospel is in the condition of sin. Romans 3:23.<\/p>\n
1. Sinful man cannot approach God. Isaiah 59:2 “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”<\/p>\n
2. God demands that his people be holy. 1 Peter 1:15-16 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”<\/p>\n
3. We must be in a holy state to approach a holy God–to be godly.<\/p>\n
II. We become holy by fulfilling the obligations God has set forth in his gospel for us to be saved. We call this the plan of salvation.<\/p>\n
1. God demands that we hear His Son and His word.<\/p>\n
1) Hebrews 1:1-2!<\/p>\n
2) Matthew 17:5 “…Hear Ye Him.”<\/p>\n
3) Romans 10:17<\/p>\n
4) Luke 8:15 The seed which falls on good ground are they who hear and do.<\/p>\n
5) Matthew 7:24-27 Wise man and foolish man.<\/p>\n
2. God demands that we believe–have faith–in Him and His word. (Tell meaning)<\/p>\n
1) Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith ….”<\/p>\n
2) 2 Corinthians 5:7 “We walk by faith, not by sight.”<\/p>\n
3) John 8:24 “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”<\/p>\n
4) John 3:16<\/p>\n
3. God demands that we repent of our sins. (Meaning of repentance)<\/p>\n
1) Acts 17:30<\/p>\n
2) Luke 13:3 “Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish.”<\/p>\n
3) Matthew 4:17 Jesus message, “Repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”<\/p>\n
4. God demands that we confess Jesus as His Son.<\/p>\n
1) Romans 10:10<\/p>\n
2) Matthew 10:32-33<\/p>\n
3) Acts 8:37 Ethiopian Eunuch<\/p>\n
5. God demands that we be baptized for the remission of our sins. This puts us into a holy state. (Emphasize the passiveness of the action. It is not a work of merit.)<\/p>\n
1) Mark 16:16<\/p>\n
2) Acts 2:38<\/p>\n
3) Romans 6:4<\/p>\n
4) Gal. 3:27<\/p>\n
5) 1 Peter 3:21<\/p>\n
III. We then stay godly by living faithful to God every day of our life.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION: In this sermon on godliness…<\/p>\n
1. We have studied the state in which a man’s soul must become that he may be godly.<\/p>\n
2. Tonight we will study the proper state in which a man must continue to be godly.<\/p>\n
