Women Who Worked for God<\/p>\n
SUBJECT: Work, Woman’s Role<\/p>\n
TITLE: Women Who Worked for God<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: In this lesson we’ll look at different women that worked for God and think about their character in that work.<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVE: To encourage and motivate our women to be like the women who worked for God.<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Read: Acts 17:4, 12<\/p>\n
2. About the Text:<\/p>\n
1) Women played a significant role in the early church.<\/p>\n
2) While we don’t know who the women specifically were at Philippi or Thessalonica, we know that they composed a good sized part of the congregation.<\/p>\n
3) In Jesus ministry as well, women played a great role.<\/p>\n
4) Women were the first humans to witness that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead.<\/p>\n
5) While we don’t have a lot of detail about many of them, we know there were some women that worked for God.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: When I think of women who worked for God, I think of…<\/p>\n
I. Sarah in Service<\/p>\n
1. Recall Genesis 18.<\/p>\n
2. Consider also 1 Peter 3:1-6<\/p>\n
II. Deborah in Counsel<\/p>\n
1. Recall Judges 4.<\/p>\n
2. Deborah was a judge and prophetess in Israel<\/p>\n
3. She counseled Barak as he battled Sisera.<\/p>\n
4. And Israel overcome their army.<\/p>\n
III. Hannah in Devotion<\/p>\n
1. Recall 1 Samuel 1-2<\/p>\n
2. Hannah had no children.<\/p>\n
3. She prayed to the Lord and devoted her firstborn to Him.<\/p>\n
4. Samuel was born.<\/p>\n
IV. Widow of Zarephath in Hospitality<\/p>\n
1. Recall 1 Kings 17:9ff<\/p>\n
2. Due to the drought there was a famine.<\/p>\n
3. The widow only had a small amount of food left.<\/p>\n
4. But she shared it with Elijah and was rewarded for it.<\/p>\n
V. Mary in Priorities<\/p>\n
1. Recall Luke 10:38-42.<\/p>\n
2. Mary understood what was important.<\/p>\n
3. Jesus praised her for it.<\/p>\n
VI. Dorcas in Charity<\/p>\n
1. Recall Acts 9:36ff.<\/p>\n
2. Dorcas was kind and did good things for others.<\/p>\n
3. She took care of widows.<\/p>\n
VII. Lois and Eunice in Parenting<\/p>\n
1. Recall 2 Timothy 1:5.<\/p>\n
2. Timothy’s mother and grandmother raised him to be faithful.<\/p>\n
3. What a tribute to his maternal parents.<\/p>\n
CONCLUSION:<\/p>\n
1. Here are some women that worked for God.<\/p>\n
2. They are an example to us, both men and women, in these areas of work and service.<\/p>\n
3. I hope they will motivate us to greater service.<\/p>\n
4. I hope they will encourage our women to know that God sees their efforts.<\/p>\n
