TITLE: The Widow and the Unjust Judge<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: To set forth an exposition of the parable Jesus told of “the widow and the unjust judge.”<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVE: To encourage us to pray to God, with importunity, and never faint.<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Like few other parables, with this one we are informed of the purpose.<\/p>\n
2. Read: Luke 18:1-8.<\/p>\n
3. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n
1) Jesus is talking about prayer.<\/p>\n
2) We should especially be interested in prayer for strength from God to do his will.<\/p>\n
3) Jesus brings up an interesting point here as he declares that God will provide (as it is according to his will, James 4:3, ask with correct motive) if we continually keep on asking.<\/p>\n
4) This parable has also been called the “Parable of the Importunate Widow” because she importuned this judge until he did what she asked. She bugged him.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: In this scripture we have –<\/p>\n
I. The objective of the parable, 18:1. (1 Thessalonians 5:17; James 1:5)<\/p>\n
II. The parable, 18:2-5.<\/p>\n
1. The Judge.<\/p>\n
2. The widow.<\/p>\n
3. The problem:<\/p>\n
1) Widow’s view;<\/p>\n
2) Judge’s.<\/p>\n
III. The conclusion in a contrast, 18:6-8.<\/p>\n
1. Notice the words of the unrighteous judge.<\/p>\n
2. God’s attitude in contrast.<\/p>\n
3. Will THE FAITH be on earth when the Lord return<\/p>\n
1) Destruction of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n
2) The end of the world.<\/p>\n
a. The world in Noah’s day.<\/p>\n
b. Sodom and Gomorrah,<\/p>\n
c. Israel,<\/p>\n
d. Edom – Rock City of Petra – Obadiah.<\/p>\n
e. Nineveh – Jonah and Nahum.<\/p>\n
f. Babylon – Jeremiah 50.<\/p>\n
g. Many others were destroyed when they became too wicked to exist.<\/p>\n
3) In this section, Jesus is not concerned about personal faith, but about THE FAITH!<\/p>\n
a. Many believed in gods or a god while Jesus was on the earth and had done so from early history,<\/p>\n
b. Jesus did NOT come to make people religious,<\/p>\n
c. Jesus is concerned about THE FAITH (Jude 3; Acts 6:7; Galatians 3:26-27).<\/p>\n
d. Acts 20:28; Jesus church is the ONLY one with THE FAITH.<\/p>\n
4. Consider the contrast in this passage:<\/p>\n
1) The Good God vs. the unjust judge. Will God avenge? Revelation 6:9-10; Romans 12:19; Hebrews 10:30-31.<\/p>\n
2) The importunate widow vs. contemporary Christians.<\/p>\n
3) Christianity vs. paganism.<\/p>\n
4) Christianity vs. denominationalism.<\/p>\n
CONCLUSION:<\/p>\n
1. In this scripture we see:<\/p>\n
1) The objective of the parable;<\/p>\n
2) The parable; and<\/p>\n
3) The conclusion in contrast.<\/p>\n
2. Let us, in light of these truths,<\/p>\n
1) Pray earnestly and continually to God; and<\/p>\n
