TITLE: Worship Part 2 — Studying Our Attitude in Worshiping God<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: We want to study our attitude of worship. In order to worship God correctly there are certain things that must be broken-1) Our preconceptions, 2) Our worldliness, 3) Our Hearts.<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVES: Everyone should be able to understand that attitude of worship is equally important to God as action..<\/p>\n
AIM: To impress upon the hearer the need to have to correct attitude in worshiping God.<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Read: Psalm 95:6,7 “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before Jehovah our Maker: For he is our God, And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To-day, oh that ye would hear his voice!” ASV 1901<\/p>\n
2. About the Text:<\/p>\n
1) We find in this verse the correct object of our worship – Jehovah.<\/p>\n
2) We find in this verse the correct attitude of worship – prostrating ourselves before God.<\/p>\n
3) We find in these verses the foundation for the correct action in worship – hearing His voice!<\/p>\n
3. Read John 4:24<\/p>\n
1) We find the correct object of worship – God who is a Spirit.<\/p>\n
2) We find the correct attitude of worship – Worship in spirit.<\/p>\n
3) We find the foundation for correct action in worship – Truth.<\/p>\n
4. Definition of worship.<\/p>\n
1) Literally the greek word (proskuneo) means “kissing toward one in reverence.”<\/p>\n
2) “The reverent love and allegience accorded a diety.” American Heritage Dictionary<\/p>\n
3) “To honor or reverence a divine being .” Websters.<\/p>\n
4) “Make obeisance to the gods or their images” Liddel and Scott Classic Greek Lexicon<\/p>\n
5) In the New Testament, those sole actions in which the Christian engages so as to specifically show reverence, obeisance, and honor unto God and his Son Jesus the Christ.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: Our Attitude in Worshiping God Must Be Correct. In order to do this, we must break . . .<\/p>\n
I. Our Preconceptions–We are not just getting our ticket punched.<\/p>\n
1. The Preconception of false sacrifice–Micah 6:6-8<\/p>\n
2. The preconception of formalism–Colossians 2:20-23<\/p>\n
3. The preconception of presumption-1 Samuel 15:13-23<\/p>\n
II. Our Lack of Focus–We must put aside all worldly concerns and focus on spiritual concerns.<\/p>\n
1. We are to focus upon the spiritual. Colossians 3:1-4<\/p>\n
2. We are to focus on faithfulness–We are to draw near in full assurance of faith. Hebrews 10:19-25<\/p>\n
3. We are to focus and center ourselves on God. Matthew 14:27-33<\/p>\n
III. Our Hearts–We must have the attitude of the broken and contrite heart.<\/p>\n
1. These are the true sacrifices–Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”<\/p>\n
2. This is who God allows to dwell with Him–Isaiah 57:15<\/p>\n
3. This is to whom God looks with favor–Isaiah 66:1, 2<\/p>\n
4. This is where the praise of God rests–Romans 2:28, 29<\/p>\n
5. Notice the example of Nehemiah (1:5-11)<\/p>\n
CONCLUSION:<\/p>\n
1. Our attitude in worshiping God must be correct. In order for us to have the right attitude, we must break ourselves. We must break our<\/p>\n
1) Preconceptions.<\/p>\n
2) Lack of Focus<\/p>\n
3) Hearts<\/p>\n
2. Invitation<\/p>\n
1) Are you a faithful Christian this morning?<\/p>\n
a. If not, your heart was once broken, but you have hardened it again.<\/p>\n
b. Rebreak it this morning so the Lord will find you acceptable to Him.<\/p>\n
2) If you are not a Christian this morning . . .<\/p>\n
a. You need to break your heart in obedience to God’s word.<\/p>\n
b. God’s plan is very simple.<\/p>\n
a) Hear the word; Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing . . .”<\/p>\n
b) Believe with all your heart; Hebrews 11:6 “For without faith it is impossible . . . .”<\/p>\n
c) Repent of your sins (Acts 17:30).<\/p>\n
d) Confess Jesus as the Son of God (Matthew 16:16).<\/p>\n
e) Be Baptized for the remission of your sins (Mark 16:15,16).<\/p>\n
