SUBJECT:<\/strong> Family<\/p>\n TITLE:<\/strong> GOD AND THE FAMILY<\/p>\n PROPOSITION:<\/strong> In this lesson we will discuss God’s ideal of the family. We will discuss God’s ideal 1) Father and Husband, 2) Mother and Wife, 3) Children, 4) Grandparents.<\/p>\n OBJECTIVES:<\/strong> Each person should be able to state what their role is in the family as God would have it and cite supporting scripture to back this up.<\/p>\n AIM:<\/strong> To support and encourage each person as they fulfill their role in the family.<\/p>\n INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Read: Genesis 18:19 “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”<\/p>\n 2. About the Text:<\/p>\n 1) Abraham had a wonderful relationship with God.<\/p>\n 2) This relationship was based upon Abraham’s faith in God.<\/p>\n 3) One of the aspects of Abraham’s life was his relationship to his family.<\/p>\n 4) God comments on this relationship in Genesis 18:19.<\/p>\n 5) Abraham was faithful to God in his family roles.<\/p>\n 6) God wants us to be faithful to Him in our family roles as well.<\/p>\n 3. Read 2 Peter 1:3<\/p>\n 1) The Bible is all sufficient to provide for any particular need that may arise in our life.<\/p>\n 2) This includes how we live in our relationships with our family as well.<\/p>\n 3) Let’s study together God’s ideal family this morning.<\/p>\n 4. Father<\/p>\n 1) Webster’s dictionary defines the word “father” as “a man who has begotten a child.”<\/p>\n 2) How does the Bible define the word “father?”<\/p>\n 3) Ephesians 6:4; Colossians 3:21<\/p>\n a. Nurture — don’t discourage them by being negative–encourage their hopes and their dreams.<\/p>\n b. Admonish (Hebrews 12:9-10)<\/p>\n c. Of the Lord–I.E. Not just ANY nurturing and admonishing.<\/p>\n d. Implications are: 1) Commitment, 2) Love, 3) Care, 4) Devotion, 5) Instruction 6) discipline, etc.<\/p>\n 4) When I think about good Fathers, I think about . . .<\/p>\n a. Joshua. (Joshua 24:15).<\/p>\n b. David. (1 Chronicles 28:9; 1 Chronicles 29:19).<\/p>\n 2. Husband<\/p>\n 1) Again, Webster’s defines husband as “a married man.”<\/p>\n 2) How does the Bible define it?<\/p>\n 3) Ephesians 5:25-30; Colossians 3:19; 1 Peter 3:7<\/p>\n a. Love — to the point of giving your life for her.<\/p>\n b. Love — as you would your own self.<\/p>\n c. Nourish<\/p>\n d. Cherish<\/p>\n e. Not bitter<\/p>\n f. Honoring<\/p>\n 4) When I think about good husbands, I think about…<\/p>\n a. Jacob — worked 14 years of his life for Rachel.<\/p>\n b. Boaz — took Ruth into his house.<\/p>\n 1. Mother<\/p>\n 1) Websters: “A woman who has begotten a child.”<\/p>\n 2) What does the Bible say a mother is?<\/p>\n a. Titus 2:4-5; 1 Timothy 5:14<\/p>\n b. Love her children.<\/p>\n c. Raise her children.<\/p>\n d. Implications: Commitment, care, concern, instruction, discipline.<\/p>\n 3) When I think about good mothers I think about . . .<\/p>\n a. Hannah. (1 Samuel 1) — Dedicated her son to the Lord.<\/p>\n b. Lois and Eunice. (2 Timothy 1:5) — raised Timothy to believe in God.<\/p>\n 2. Wife<\/p>\n 1) Websters: “A woman who is married.”<\/p>\n 2) What does the Bible say?<\/p>\n a. Ephesians 5:22-23; Titus 2:4-5<\/p>\n b. Love her husband.<\/p>\n c. Submit to husband.<\/p>\n d. Implications: Commitment, concern, learn from Him, help him, work with him.<\/p>\n 3) When I think about good wives I think about . . .<\/p>\n a. Sarah. (1 Peter 3:5-6)<\/p>\n b. Elizabeth (Luke 1:60) — When all the other kindred questioned the name of the child, Elizabeth supported her husband.<\/p>\n 1. As Children<\/p>\n 1) The offspring of a parent.<\/p>\n 2) What does the Bible say?<\/p>\n a. Psalm 127:3-5 — They are a heritage from the Lord.<\/p>\n b. Ephesians 6:1-2 — They are to be obedient to their parents.<\/p>\n 2. As Adults<\/p>\n 1) Children don’t stop being children just because they are grown up.<\/p>\n 2) Parents still have a responsibility to love and support them.<\/p>\n 3) Children still have the responsibility to obey their parents.<\/p>\n 4) Children must honor their father and mother. (Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16; Ephesians 6:2)<\/p>\n 1. Proverbs 17:6<\/p>\n 2. Grandparents help grandchildren by loving their children.<\/p>\n 3. Grandparents have a responsibility to teach their grandchildren (Deuteronomy 6:1-3).<\/p>\n CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. God’s Family is a family in which all are doing what God wants them to do.<\/p>\n 1) As fathers and husbands.<\/p>\n 2) As mothers and wives.<\/p>\n 3) As children.<\/p>\n 4) As grandparents.<\/p>\n 2.
