INTRODUCTION:<\/strong> Luke 13:3<\/p>\n

1. Matthew 3:2. John–“Repent ye for…”<\/p>\n

2. Matthew 4:17. Jesus–“Repent ye for…”<\/p>\n

3. Luke 24:46. “Thus it is written and…”<\/p>\n

4. Acts 3:19. “Repent ye therefore and turn again…”<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I.   WHAT IS BIBLE REPENTANCE?<\/h2>\n

1. It is not:<\/p>\n

1) Godly sorrow (2 Corinthians 7:10); goodness of God also (Romans 2:4).<\/p>\n

2) Despair, remorse, regret–Judas (Matthew 27:3).<\/p>\n

3) Just quitting sinning. Make restitution where possible.<\/p>\n

4) Covering up the sin (David). 2 Samuel 11<\/p>\n

5) Nor is it good works, Matt. 3:8.<\/p>\n

2. It is a change of mind and will.<\/p>\n

1) Matthew 21:28. “He repented and went…”<\/p>\n

2) Acts 16:33. “Jailer washed stripes…”<\/p>\n

3) Acts 19:19. Ephesians burned books.<\/p>\n

4) Luke 15:11. Prodigal son came home.<\/p>\n

II.  WHY SHOULD MAN REPENT?<\/h2>\n

1. God requires it. 2 Peter 3:9<\/p>\n

2. It is a command of God. Acts 17:30-31<\/p>\n

3. Jesus said, “Repent or perish.” Luke 13:3, 5.<\/p>\n

4. It is a command of the gospel. Acts 2:38.<\/p>\n

III. WHO MUST REPENT?<\/h2>\n

1. Erring Christians. Acts 8:22; James 5:16.<\/p>\n

2. Alien sinners. Acts 2:38<\/p>\n

IV.  WHAT ARE THE MOTIVES OF REPENTANCE?<\/h2>\n

1. Fear of punishment. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Hebrews 10:26-31.<\/p>\n

2. Hope of reward in Heaven. Rev. 22:14.<\/p>\n

3. Love of God. Romans 5:8-11; John 3:16.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Bible repentance is a change of mind. It is preceded by godly sorrow and coupled with the goodness of God. It is followed by a change of life.<\/p>\n

2. The God that created us and sustains us has commanded that we repent.<\/p>\n

3. Repent if you are a Christian in sin. Decide to do it God’s way.<\/p>\n

4. If you are not a Christian repent of your sins today. Put on Christ in baptism.<\/p>\n

5. Repent because Hell awaits those who refuse.<\/p>\n

6. Repent because a reward awaits you in Heaven.<\/p>\n

7. Let the love of God move you to repent.<\/p>\n
