God’s principles are the save though his methods are different.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Genesis 6:8-10

2. About the Text:

1) We often teach the story of Noah and the Ark to our children.

2) However, the story also contains great lessons for adults as well.

3) This is the true story about how God saved man.

4) In this way, it is illustrative for us today as well.

5) The principles that we find in this story of salvation are the same principles God uses today.

6) Let’s look at this true story about man’s salvation and note how it parallels the story of our salvation today.

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

DISCUSSION: In this sermon on the life of Noah we see that:

I. Noah was saved by Grace

1. The situation in Noah’s day.

1) Read Genesis 6:1-7.

2) Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

3) Noah was saved by Grace.

4) The presentation of God’s grace to Noah was through a covenant. Genesis 6:18 “But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”

2. The situation in our day.

1) All have sinned. Romans 3:23

2) Our sin merits eternal punishment. Romans 6:23.

3. We are saved by grace.

1) Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

2) Ephesians 2:4-8

3) Titus 3:3-7

4) It is through the unmerited favor of God’s sending his Son Jesus that we can have salvation today.

5) Were it not for that great act of grace, we would not be saved.

6) God has done His part in the plan for man’s salvation.

7) This is the grace of God.

4. The presentation of God’s grace to us today is through the New Covenant of Jesus.

1) Matthew 26:28 “For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

2) Hebrews 9:11-15

II. Noah was saved by Faith

1. Noah’s faith.

1) Noah had never seen a flood.

2) Noah had likely never seen rain.

3) Noah had never seen every animal in the world.

4) Noah had never seen a structure like the one God told him to build.

5) Noah had never seen a boat float.

6) But God spoke directly to Noah and he trusted in the word of God.

7) Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”

2. Our faith.

1) We have never seen our own souls.

2) We have never seen the stain of sin on our souls.

3) We have never seen God wipe off that stain with the blood of Christ.

4) We have never seen heaven or hell.

5) We have never seen Satan.

6) But just as Noah trusted in the word of God, so we do as well.

7) God speaks to us today through Jesus, his Son. Hebrews 1:1

8) So we put our trust in the word of the Resurrected Savior. Romans 10:17

3. Today we are saved by faith.

1) 2 Corinthians 5:7–Walk by faith.

2) Ephesians 2:8 through faith.

3) John 3:16

4) Noah’s faith was not a deedless faith.

5) Our faith is not a deedless faith either.

6) James 2:14 -26

III. Noah was saved by Obedience

1. Noah’s obedience.

1) Genesis 6:22 “Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did Hebrews”

2) Genesis 7:5, 7:9, 7:16 says the same thing. That Noah did what God commanded.

3) But Noah did what God commanded for the purpose that God commanded it–to be saved.

4) This is obedience.

2. Our obedience.

1) 1 John 5:3, 4 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

2) Hebrews 5:8-9

3. We are saved by obedience today.

1) Mark 16:16

2) Just as Noah obeyed for the reasons that God told him to obey, so must we. Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16.

4. Finally, in this life of Noah sermon we see that:

IV. Noah was saved from Destruction

1. Noah’s salvation from destruction.

1) Genesis 7:21-23

2) 1 Peter 3:20 “… wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”

2. Our salvation from destruction.

1) 1 Peter 3:21–Baptism saves us from destruction today.

2) What kind of destruction can we expect to come?

3) Peter talks about this in 2 Peter 3:3-7

4) John writes in Revelation 21:6 “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

a. The first resurrection was that of Christ.

b. We have part in that resurrection through baptism.

3. We can be saved from destruction today as well.

1) 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

2) We must know God.

3) We must obey the gospel.

CONCLUSION: [conclusion to this life of Noah sermon]

1. Noah has many lessons to teach us, but perhaps the lessons in salvation and the relationship between the different aspects of salvation is the greatest. Let us remember…

1) Noah was saved by Grace.

2) Noah was saved by Faith

3) Noah was saved by Obedience

4) Noah was saved from Destruction

Sermon on Noah — Sermon outline by Kevin Cauley on the life of Noah and Noah’s salvation by faith and God’s grace and obedience and our own salvation by those same means.
