TITLE:<\/strong> GOVERNMENT<\/p>\n

PROPOSITION:<\/strong> To set forth “government” in God’s design.<\/p>\n

OBJECTIVE:<\/strong>That we have the proper attitude toward and proper behavior regarding “government.”<\/p>\n

INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Read: Romans 13:1-7.<\/p>\n

2. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n

1) There are, as far as this earth is concerned, “higher powers.”<\/p>\n

2) There are, in fact, three great organizations created by God:<\/p>\n

a. The home;<\/p>\n

b. Civil governments; and<\/p>\n

c. The church.<\/p>\n

3) The “higher powers” are ordained by God!<\/p>\n

4) On the basis of this, God instructs Christians to be “in subjection” to these “higher powers.”<\/p>\n

5) God has also given limits of human, civil governments by stating what they can do and wherein they can function.<\/p>\n

3. Reference to Subject, Title, Proposition and Objective.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION:<\/strong> Regarding government, we see –<\/p>\n

I.   THEIR ORDINATION.<\/p>\n

1. Romans 13:1.<\/p>\n

2. 1 Peter 2:13-17.<\/p>\n

II.  THEIR FUNCTION.<\/p>\n

1. “Vengeance on evil doers.”<\/p>\n

1) 1 Peter 2:14; and<\/p>\n

2) Romans 13:3.<\/p>\n

2. “Praise to them that do well.”<\/p>\n

1) Peter 2:14; and<\/p>\n

2) Romans 13:3-4.<\/p>\n

3. Romans 13:4; the sword for national defense includes its being used to punish moral evil.<\/p>\n

III. EVERY CHRISTIAN’S ATTITUDE AND ACTION.<\/p>\n

1. Subjection:<\/p>\n

1) Romans 13:1;<\/p>\n

2) Romans 13:5;<\/p>\n

3) 1 Peter 2:13.<\/p>\n

2. Financial support:<\/p>\n

1) Romans 13:6-7;<\/p>\n

2) 1 Peter 2:17.<\/p>\n

3. Respect; Romans 13:7.<\/p>\n

4. Prayer: 1 Timothy 2:1-2.<\/p>\n

5. To silence the ignorance of foolish men, 1 Peter 2:15-16.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Regarding government, we have seen:<\/p>\n

1) THEIR ORDINATION;<\/p>\n

2) THEIR FUNCTION; and<\/p>\n

3) EVERY CHRISTIAN’S ATTITUDE AND ACTION.<\/p>\n
