TITLE: I HAVE NOT FOUND SO GREAT FAITH<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: To set forth Jesus’ definition of and praise for “Great Faith” found in Matthew 8:10.<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVE:To help us all develop “Great Faith.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Read: Matthew 8:5-13.<\/p>\n
2. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n
1) Every word in the Bible is important.<\/p>\n
2) Every word in the Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament is a word chosen by God both as to its form and use.<\/p>\n
3) Ephesians 3:3-5.<\/p>\n
4) God’s meaning can be seen clearly in Galatians 3:16.<\/p>\n
5) The entire incident of this text is important and significant lessons can be found in each word and verse.<\/p>\n
6) This lesson focuses on verse 10.<\/p>\n
3. Reference to Subject, Title, Proposition and Objective.<\/p>\n
DISCUSSION: In this verse we have the Lord’s –<\/p>\n
I. ATTENTION to people.<\/p>\n
1. This was a non-Jew.<\/p>\n
2. This was a centurion, (perhaps Cornelius, Acts 10:34-35).<\/p>\n
II. AMAZEMENT at this display of faith.<\/p>\n
1. Daniel 3:16-18. —<\/p>\n
2. Genesis 7:5.<\/p>\n
III. AFFIRMATION of appreciation and praise.<\/p>\n
1. Jesus is not talking about “the faith.”<\/p>\n
2. What kind of faith does God respect?<\/p>\n
3. Consider the attributes of God that make God God, and can\/does God trust God?<\/p>\n
4. Faith which God respects is not defined by God’s ability.<\/p>\n
1) What do you believe about God?<\/p>\n
2) Has God overcome the power of Satan, Hebrews 2:14-15?<\/p>\n
3) Will God save a person who jumps off a 1 00 story building, Matthew 4:6-7.<\/p>\n
4) Will God always win or prevail in the lives of individuals?<\/p>\n
a. 2 Peter 3:9;<\/p>\n
b. Hebrews 6:4-6;<\/p>\n
c. Galatians 5:4;<\/p>\n
d. 2 Timothy 4:10.<\/p>\n
5) We live in an “I want” society,<\/p>\n
a. My brother used to say, “It’s not what you want that counts a bit; it’s what you get.”<\/p>\n
b. Just so, it is not what a person believes about God that is the correct definition of God, but only what God has revealed, said about himself.<\/p>\n
5. Remember the Centurion’s words, “But only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.”<\/p>\n
1) The Centurion related this to authority.<\/p>\n
2) He understood authority.<\/p>\n
3) His faith was great because he accepted Jesus’ authority…Jesus’ WORD.<\/p>\n
6. This is God’s definition of “GREAT FAITH” and it always has been and always will be.<\/p>\n
CONCLUSION:<\/p>\n
1. Great faith is accepting the New Testament and obeying it.<\/p>\n
2. Would Jesus call my faith…your faith…great?<\/p>\n
