PROPOSITION:<\/strong> To set forth the sin of presumption.<\/p>\n OBJECTIVE:<\/strong> To help us avoid presumptuous sin.<\/p>\n INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Read: Deuteronomy 17:12-13; Deut. 18:20-22.<\/p>\n 2. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n 1) The Old Testament was written for our learning, 1 Corinthians 10:11.<\/p>\n 2) Many Old Testament passages set forth the vile sin of presuming.<\/p>\n 3) One of the most beautiful is the words of David in Psalms 19:12,13.<\/p>\n 4) To show that presumptuous sin is just as horrible in God’s sight today as it was in the Old Testament times, we read 2 Peter 2:10.<\/p>\n 3. Reference to S.T.P.O.<\/p>\n DISCUSSION:<\/strong> There is “presumption”<\/p>\n 1. Religious traditions are as good as God’s revelation, Matthew 15:9.<\/p>\n 2. That pronouncements by worldly educated leaders are as good as God’s word,<\/p>\n 3. Colossians 2:18-19.<\/p>\n 4. That religious leaders pronouncements are equal to God’s law, 2 Peter 2:1-3.<\/p>\n 5. That personal feelings are better than God’s word, 2 Corinthians 5:7; Proverbs 28:26; 14:12.<\/p>\n 1. Ignorance is ok, Acts 17:22-23 and 30;<\/p>\n 2. Human tradition, Matthew 15:8-9;<\/p>\n 3. Angels, Colossians 2:18, Revelation 22:8-9<\/p>\n 4. Human will, Colossians 2:23<\/p>\n 5. God has spoken, John 4:24.<\/p>\n 6. God has remained silent, Hebrews 7:14; Leviticus 10:2.<\/p>\n 7. This has application to generic and specific authority.<\/p>\n 8. This must be applied to:<\/p>\n 1) The Lord’s Supper;<\/p>\n 2) Giving;<\/p>\n 3) Teaching\/learning situations;<\/p>\n 4) Praying; and<\/p>\n 5) Singing.<\/p>\n 1. God is a “man”, Psalm 50:21.<\/p>\n 2. God does not see or know, Psalm 73:8-11, Psalm 44:20-21.<\/p>\n 3. This is difficult because we tend to separate religion from life.<\/p>\n 4. Separation of church & state is big in America today and is misunderstood.<\/p>\n 5. No society can operate without moral rules, regulations and laws.<\/p>\n 6. ALL morality comes from God!!!<\/p>\n 7. This is where presumption sneaks in. We forget the source. Why?<\/p>\n 1) We have different punishment for different crimes.<\/p>\n 2) We see sin as of different levels.<\/p>\n 3) We give lip-service to the idea that all sin is the same, but we don’t really believe it.<\/p>\n 8. Some how, some way, by some means, we must come to understand that before God there is no difference between:<\/p>\n 1) murder and drinking beverage alcohol;<\/p>\n 2) fornication and tobacco use;<\/p>\n 3) No difference between steeling and drug abuse;<\/p>\n 4) NO DIFFERENCE!!!!!<\/p>\n 9. Colossians 3:17 still, for everyday living, commands, “Quote.”<\/p>\n 10.We are still under 1 Thessalonians 5:21.<\/p>\n 11.God will judge us by his word, John 12:48.<\/p>\n 12.We will be judged as surely for what we do on the job as for what we do in worship.<\/p>\n 13.We will be judged as surely for our recreation as for our doctrine.<\/p>\n CONCLUSION:<\/strong> We must not be presumptuous in our salvation, worship, nor in our very life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Sermon on Presumption PROPOSITION: To set forth the sin of presumption.
