TITLE: Studies in Genesis – The Creation<\/p>\n
PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will study the Genesis account of creation.<\/p>\n
OBJECTIVE: That everyone would be more familiar with the Bible doctrine of Creation as found in Genesis.<\/p>\n
INTRODUCTION:<\/p>\n
1. Read: Genesis 2:1-3<\/p>\n
2. About the Text:<\/p>\n
1) The book of Genesis is the book of beginnings.<\/p>\n
2) The purpose of the book as written is to explain to the nation of Israel …<\/p>\n
a. Where they came from;<\/p>\n
b. How they came to be in Egyptian captivity, and …<\/p>\n
c. Why they are going back to the land of Canaan.<\/p>\n
3) But in answering the questions for the Israelites, the book also answers questions we ask as well.<\/p>\n
a. Who are we?<\/p>\n
b. Where did we come from?<\/p>\n
c. Why are we here?<\/p>\n
4) These are fundamental questions that every man asks.<\/p>\n
3. Why we need to study Genesis.<\/p>\n
1) The book of Genesis contains the answers that are fundamental to society as a whole.<\/p>\n
2) We have seen in our country an abandonment of those answers.<\/p>\n
3) And now we are seeing the results of what it means to abandon those answers.<\/p>\n
4) We need to get back to these foundational truths.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: The book of Genesis is the book of creation. In it we read of the creation of …<\/p>\n
I. THE HABITAT OF MAN – GENESIS 1:1-25<\/p>\n
1. Man’s habitat is revealed to us in the days of creation.<\/p>\n
1) Did God create the world in six literal days?<\/p>\n
2) We need to consider Exodus 20:11 “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”<\/p>\n
3) This verse refutes both the day-age theory and the gap-theory.<\/p>\n
4) There is no reason to accept the theory of macro-evolution.<\/p>\n
2. The days of creation.<\/p>\n
1) Day 1<\/p>\n
a. Heavens and Earth<\/p>\n
b. Light and darkness.<\/p>\n
2) Day 2 – The division between water and air.<\/p>\n
3) Day 3<\/p>\n
a. The division between the dry land and water.<\/p>\n
b. The plant kingdom.<\/p>\n
4) Day 4 –<\/p>\n
a. The celestial bodies (Sun, Moon, Stars).<\/p>\n
b. Herein is the explanation for the origins of time keeping, days, months, years.<\/p>\n
5) Day 5<\/p>\n
a. Water animals.<\/p>\n
b. Air animals.<\/p>\n
6) Day 6<\/p>\n
a. Land animals and insects.<\/p>\n
b. Man.<\/p>\n
7) Day 7 – God rested – Genesis 2:1-3<\/p>\n
a. Herein is the explanation of the seven day week.<\/p>\n
b. Herein is also the explanation for a day of rest and worship.<\/p>\n
3. Everything that God does is good!<\/p>\n
II. THE NATURE OF MAN – GENESIS 1:26-30<\/p>\n
1. Man is made in the image of God.<\/p>\n
1) Man is not made in the image of beast.<\/p>\n
2) Man is not made in the image of other men.<\/p>\n
2. Man is the ruler of the earth.<\/p>\n
1) The text says he has “dominion.”<\/p>\n
2) This word means “to rule” or “to reign.”<\/p>\n
3) It doesn’t mean “to conquer.”<\/p>\n
4) The teaching, however, is that the earth was made for man, not man for the earth.<\/p>\n
5) Many false religions today teach just the opposite.<\/p>\n
6) Nature is not to be worshipped, but rather, managed.<\/p>\n
3. Man is made both male and female.<\/p>\n
1) God’s design all along was for there to be both.<\/p>\n
2) There is equality between male and female by order of creation.<\/p>\n
3) This refutes the notion of the domination of man over woman.<\/p>\n
4) It also refutes the notion of woman’s domination over man.<\/p>\n
5) God made man both male and female so that they could populate the earth.<\/p>\n
6) Herein is the principle that God doesn’t do that which man can do.<\/p>\n
7) We also note the principle of biogenesis – like produces like.<\/p>\n
III. THE PURPOSE OF MAN’S CREATION – GENESIS 2:4-17<\/p>\n
1. Man has an obligation to work.<\/p>\n
1) God created a garden in which for man to live.<\/p>\n
2) Man was expected to dress and keep the garden.<\/p>\n
3) 2 Thess. 3:12 “Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.”<\/p>\n
4) Ephesians 4:28 ” Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.”<\/p>\n
2. Man has the obligation to obey God.<\/p>\n
1) Man could eat of all the trees in the garden but one.<\/p>\n
2) He was forbidden by God to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.<\/p>\n
IV. THE SOCIETY OF MAN – GENESIS 2:18-25<\/p>\n
1. We have in this passage the story of the special creation of woman.<\/p>\n
2. In that story we learn several things.<\/p>\n
3. God didn’t want man to be alone.<\/p>\n
4. God wanted man to have a help and support suitable for him.<\/p>\n
5. Woman was made out of man’s rib – his side – as an equal.<\/p>\n
6. Man and woman together form the nucleus of society, the family.<\/p>\n
7. Jesus would return to these scriptures to explain the doctrine of marriage and family in Matthew 19:1ff.<\/p>\n
CONCLUSION:<\/p>\n
1. The book of Genesis is the book of beginnings.<\/p>\n
1) The habitat of man.<\/p>\n
2) The purpose of man.<\/p>\n
3) The purpose of man’s creation.<\/p>\n
4) The society of man.<\/p>\n
2. The book of Genesis contains many of the answers for which many are looking today.<\/p>\n
3. We need to respect it for the truths it contains.<\/p>\n
