Sermon on Infant Baptism Here’s Why We Don’t Practice Infant Baptism<\/strong>. Sermon outline by G. E. Watkins outlining the reasons why churches of Christ do not baptize infants. INTRODUCTION: [Beginning of this sermon on infant baptism]<\/p>\n

1. A mother comes to worship with deep concern for her baby. She can’t bear the thought of her child being lost. She wants him to be baptized.<\/p>\n

2. This morning we are going to assure that mother and be instructed ourselves as to why we don’t practice infant baptism on those precious little ones.<\/p>\n

1) It’s not because we don’t value them.<\/p>\n

2) It’s not because of lack of concern for their souls.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: TO THAT MOTHER WE WOULD SAY…[Discussion of this sermon on infant baptism]<\/h2>\n

I.   WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR BABY WAS NOT BORN IN SIN.<\/h3>\n

1. The soul that sins will die. Guilt is not inherited. Ezekiel 18:20<\/p>\n

2. Man’s heart is evil from his YOUTH, not from birth. Genesis 8:21<\/p>\n

3. The kingdom of heaven belongs to babies like yours. Matthew 19:14<\/p>\n

II.  WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR BABY WILL NOT BE JUDGED FOR SINS NOT COMMITTED.<\/h3>\n

1. God will judge WORKS not the guilt of others. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14<\/p>\n

2. God will judge fairly according to deeds. Romans 2:6-11; Rev. 20:13<\/p>\n

III. WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR CHILD IS NOT HELL-BOUND.<\/h3>\n

1. By hell-bound I mean bound for the second death. Rev. 20:14<\/p>\n

2. Note that it is SIN that causes this death. Romans 6:23<\/p>\n

3. It is one’s OWN sin that causes death. Ezekiel 18:20<\/p>\n

IV.  WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE GOD IS NOT OF SUCH A CHARACTER THAT HE WOULD REQUIRE SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE DONE.<\/h3>\n

1. He want all to be saved. 2 Peter 3:9<\/p>\n

2. God requires that we hear and understand the gospel. Romans 1:16; Romans 10:17; Matthew 15:10; Acts 28:27.<\/p>\n

3. God requires that we believe the Gospel. Mark 16:16. We cannot ask babies to believe any fact.<\/p>\n

4. God requires that we repent of sin. Acts 2:38. Repentance is a change of mind. Babies can’t do that.<\/p>\n

5. God requires that we confess Christ before men. Romans 10:9-10<\/p>\n

6. God requires that we submit to baptism. Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38. You can force a baby but he cannot submit.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION: [Conclusion of this sermon on infant baptism}<\/p>\n

1. To the mother who is concerned about her infant’s soul we commend that attitude. It is not, however, yet a concern. Your babe is innocent.<\/p>\n

2. You still have an opportunity to effect that little one’s eternal soul.<\/p>\n

3. By example and by telling the story of Jesus you can awaken a hunger early for spiritual things. Your child can be like Samuel with a heart that says, “Speak Lord, thy servant heareth.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
