Sermon on the Authority of God<\/strong> – Sermon outline by Bill Jackson in which he reasons from the nature of God, His authority and the authority of His word and our obligation to obey.<\/p>\n

Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Just the one word, but how important a word it is!<\/p>\n

2. How I view it says so much of myself and my relationship with Him.<\/p>\n

3. Much in the way of religious views centers on disdain for authority!<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: In this sermon on the authority of God…<\/h2>\n

I.   The Matter of Authority is Real When We Think of God’s Being.<\/p>\n

A. If the Lord exists, man, not being a god, is subject to Him!<\/p>\n

B. Of man, the Lord said, “I formed him for myself”<\/em> (Isa. 43:21).<\/p>\n

1. Spoken of Israel, and no less of all men.<\/p>\n

2. Doing the will of God, the WHOLE (duty) of man (Eccl. 12:13).<\/p>\n

3. Man must deal with deity — no choice! (Heb. 4:13).<\/p>\n

II.  Note The Statements Wherein God Shows That Authority Over Us.<\/h2>\n

A. He is the judge over all the earth (Gen. 18:25).<\/p>\n

B. We shall all stand before the judgment seat (2 Cor. 5:10).<\/p>\n

C. Every one of us shall give account of himself to God (Rom. 14:12).<\/p>\n

D. Every work, good or evil, to be in judgment (Eccl. 12:14).<\/p>\n

E. In that day, judgment of the secrets of men (Rom. 2:16).<\/p>\n

F. Every man’s work to be judged without respect of persons (1 Pet. 1:17).<\/p>\n

G. Every idle word to be accounted for in judgment (Matt. 12:36).<\/p>\n

H. Can We read such verses and not realize that we are under authority to God?<\/strong><\/p>\n

III. That Sense Of Authority Urges A Proper Attitude, Disposition Toward God And The Things Of God.<\/h2>\n

A. Toward the Word of God.<\/p>\n

1. Do I feel obligated toward it, bound by what it says?<\/p>\n

2. Or, do I look upon it as “serious, but not too serious?”<\/em><\/p>\n

3. May I be reminded of His seriousness in the matter?<\/p>\n

a. “Do not add to, nor take from”<\/em> (Deut. 4:2).<\/p>\n

b. Add not, lest He reprove and make you a liar (Prov. 30:6).<\/p>\n

c. The Words spoken will be the basis of judgment (John 12:48).<\/p>\n

d. At the end of the Revelation, and the end of the Bible, the warning: Do not add to nor take from (Rev. 22:18-19).<\/p>\n

B. The, toward the Christ.<\/p>\n

1. These will amount to the same: The Christ, the Word of God.<\/p>\n

2. The Father now speaks through His Son (Heb. 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

3. “…My beloved Son; HEAR YE HIM”<\/em> (Matt. 17:5).<\/p>\n

4. Condemned if we go beyond the doctrine of Christ (2 John 9).<\/p>\n

C. Then, toward NEW TESTAMENT TEACHING of the Christ.<\/p>\n

1. On the church.<\/p>\n

2. On the plan of salvation.<\/p>\n

3. On worship after the New Testament order.<\/p>\n

4. On the organization of the church – etc., etc.<\/p>\n

Conclusion:<\/strong> Finally, in this sermon on the authority of God…<\/p>\n

1. Religious division has ever been a sinful reaction to AUTHORITY.<\/p>\n

2. Division within the kingdom has been the same; the liberalism of our current time is rebellion against AUTHORITY.<\/p>\n

3. Proper response to AUTHORITY is to obey, and then live obediently in all things; if not a Christian, we hope you will, this day, have the faith, repent of sins, confess Christ, and be baptized BY HIS AUTHORITY!<\/p>\n
