TITLE:<\/strong> Sermon on the Church Why Was the Church Established?<\/h2>\n

SUBJECT:<\/strong> The Church<\/p>\n

PROPOSITION:<\/strong> To set forth God’s reason for the church of Christ.<\/p>\n

OBJECTIVE: <\/strong> That we be members of God’s church of Christ.<\/p>\n

INTRODUCTION<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

1. Read: Ephesians 3:8-11.<\/p>\n

2. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n

1) God is:<\/p>\n

a. All powerful [omnipotent];<\/p>\n

b. All loving [omnibenevolent]; and<\/p>\n

c. All knowing [omniscient],<\/p>\n

2) In eternity, God was, is and always will be prepared for every situation, even man’s sin.<\/p>\n

3) Man’s problem is sin, Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2.<\/p>\n

4) God’s eternal remedy for sin is the church of Christ.<\/p>\n

5) This is the wisdom of God, 1 Corinthians 2:6-13; 1:18-21.<\/p>\n

3. Reference to Subject, Title, Proposition and Objective.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: <\/strong>The church of Christ was established –<\/p>\n

I.   BECAUSE MAN COULD NOT SAVE HIMSELF.<\/p>\n

1. Romans 6:23; 3:9.<\/p>\n

2. Matthew 26:39.<\/p>\n

3. Luke 17:7-10.<\/p>\n

4. Matthew 18:23-35.<\/p>\n

5. Luke 19:10<\/p>\n

II.  BECAUSE GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING HUMANITY REALLY NEEDS.<\/p>\n

1. Matthew 6:7-8.<\/p>\n

2. What do we really NEED?<\/p>\n

3. Food, clothing and shelter, yes, even companionship are only “necessary?” while we have physical life.<\/p>\n

4. We do not need physical life, it is a gift which God can revoke at any instant.<\/p>\n

5. The only real need, therefore is spiritual, Matthew 6:33.<\/p>\n

III. TO DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE.<\/p>\n

1. Consider the wisdom of men and foolishness of God, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25.<\/p>\n

2. Consider “the word of the cross.”<\/p>\n

3. Luke 8:11.<\/p>\n

4. John 16:12-14.<\/p>\n

5. “Attend the church of your choice”?<\/p>\n

6. 1 Corinthians 4:6.<\/p>\n

IV.  TO SAVE THE SOULS OF MEN.<\/p>\n

1. Ephesians 5:23.<\/p>\n

2. Colossians 1:18.<\/p>\n

3. 1 Corinthians 12:13.<\/p>\n

4. Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:26-27.<\/p>\n

5. 2 Timothy 2:10.<\/p>\n

6. Ephesians 1:3.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. The church of Christ was established:<\/p>\n

1) BECAUSE MAN COULD NOT SAVE HIMSELF;<\/p>\n

2) BECAUSE GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING HUMANITY REALLY NEEDS;<\/p>\n

3) TO DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE; and<\/p>\n

4) TO SAVE THE SOULS OF MEN.<\/p>\n
