SUBJECT: Salvation<\/p>\n

TITLE: THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD<\/p>\n

PROPOSITION: To set forth a study of 2 Corinthians 5:21, the righteousness of God and “in him,” as it relates to us.<\/p>\n

OBJECTIVE:That we be located in Christ and be righteous.<\/p>\n

INTRODUCTION: [beginning of this sermon on righteousness of God<\/p>\n

1. Read: 2 Corinthians 5:21.<\/p>\n

2. Regarding the text:<\/p>\n

1) Define:<\/p>\n

a. Sin – ;<\/p>\n

b. Him – ; and<\/p>\n

c. Righteousness – God’s plan to make man righteous before Him;<\/p>\n

a) Matthew 6:33;<\/p>\n

b) Romans 1:16-17; and<\/p>\n

c) Romans 3:26.<\/p>\n

2) Consider the apostles were the only ambassadors of Christ.<\/p>\n

3) Thus, Paul as apostolic ambassador was beseeching the Corinthian Christians to be reconciled to God.<\/p>\n

4) This shows and clearly demonstrates our constant need to re-evaluate, update and improve our relationship with the Lord.<\/p>\n

5) The re-evaluation must be done objectively.<\/p>\n

3. Reference to Subject, Title, Proposition and Objective.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION: In this verse we see –<\/p>\n

I.   PROPITIATION.<\/p>\n

1. Romans 3:23.<\/p>\n

2. Matthew 27:46 Jesus took the sins of the world:<\/p>\n

1) Isaiah 53:5-6;<\/p>\n

2) Isaiah 59:1-2;<\/p>\n

3) Separated from God.<\/p>\n

3. Jesus knew no sin.<\/p>\n

1) Jesus knew what sin was, but did not experience it: Genesis 4:1; Matthew 1:25.<\/p>\n

2) Philippians 2:5-8.<\/p>\n

3) Not an angel sent.<\/p>\n

4) Hebrews 2:17-18.<\/p>\n

5) In this humanity Jesus faced temptation and the cross: Hebrews 4:15.<\/p>\n

II.  POSSIBILITY.<\/p>\n

1. “Might.” The Lord has made righteousness a possibility but only we can make it a reality.<\/p>\n

2. Subjunctive mood.<\/p>\n

1) Philippians 2:9-11.<\/p>\n

2) John 3:16.<\/p>\n

a. No one should perish<\/p>\n

b. but most will: Matthew 7:13-14; 7:21-23; 22:14.<\/p>\n

3. Titus 1:2.<\/p>\n

4. Hebrews 6:17-19.<\/p>\n

III. POSITION.<\/p>\n

1. The location, “in Him.”<\/p>\n

2. The location of spiritual blessings:<\/p>\n

1) Ephesians 1:3;<\/p>\n

2) Ephesians 1:7;<\/p>\n

3) 2 Timothy 2:10.<\/p>\n

3. What does “in Christ” mean?<\/p>\n

1) Ephesians 1:22-23;<\/p>\n

2) Colossians 1:18;<\/p>\n

3) Romans 12:4-5.<\/p>\n

4. How many bodies does Jesus have and save?<\/p>\n

1) Ephesians 4:4-6; and<\/p>\n

2) Ephesians 5:23.<\/p>\n

5. How does one enter into Christ?<\/p>\n
