INTRODUCTION: Read Matt. 3:13-17, The Baptism of Jesus<\/p>\n
1. The arrival of Jesus had been heralded by angels, an astronomical phenomenon, visiting dignitaries and a prophet of God.<\/p>\n
2. Now it is time for God to make the announcement.<\/p>\n
1) God had spoken audibly before, Exo. 20.<\/p>\n
2) The announcement occurs at the moment of Jesus’ obedience.<\/p>\n
3) It approves the baptism of John.<\/p>\n
4) THE MESSIAH IS NOW HERE!<\/p>\n
DISCUSSION:<\/p>\n
I. GOD’S VOICE APPROVED JOHN’S BAPTISM<\/p>\n
1. John was a prophet but did no miracle, John 10:41<\/p>\n
2. God’s voice showed that John’s preaching gave the way to righteousness. 3:11, 15<\/p>\n
II. GOD’S VOICE HERALDED THE COMING OF MESSIAH<\/p>\n
1. Out in the wilderness with the people surrounding. 3:1, 5; Exo. 19:17.<\/p>\n
2. The prophet like Moses has arrived, Deut. 18:15-19<\/p>\n
3. The Lord’s chosen servant. Isa. 42:1; 42:21<\/p>\n
4. The Lord’s annointed. Psa. 2.<\/p>\n
