SUBJECT:<\/strong> Attitudes<\/p>\n TITLE:<\/strong> For Obedience Of Faith<\/p>\n PROPOSITION:<\/strong> In this lesson we will note the following: 1) Jesus lived and died, 2) The Gospel was Given, 3) Salvation is available, . . . for obedience of faith.<\/p>\n OBJECTIVES:<\/strong> Each hearer should recognize the need for obedience to God through the faith that He gives to us in the gospel message.<\/p>\n AIM:<\/strong> My aim is to bring out the necessity for obedience within the gospel of Christ.<\/p>\n INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Read: Romans 1:1-5<\/p>\n 2. About the Text:<\/p>\n 1) The book of Romans presents God’s plan for man’s salvation.<\/p>\n 2) Both in the salutation of this epistle, and in the close, this phrase “For Obedience of Faith” is used.<\/p>\n 3) The second use is in Romans 16:26.<\/p>\n 4) The preposition “EIS” is used in this phrase, i.e. in order to obtain.<\/p>\n 5) This expression represents a purpose that God had in mind for man.<\/p>\n 6) That purpose is to obey God through a life of faith.<\/p>\n 7) We must not forget Romans 10:17.<\/p>\n 3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.<\/p>\n DISCUSSION:<\/strong> For obedience of faith . . .<\/p>\n I. Jesus lived and died.<\/p>\n 1. Jesus never spake anything except at the Father’s command. John 12:49 “For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.”<\/p>\n 2. Jesus always kept God’s commandments in His life. John 15:10 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Fathers commandments, and abide in his love.”<\/p>\n 3. It was God’s commandment that Jesus go to the cross and Jesus obeyed. John 14:31 “but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.”<\/p>\n 4. It was through Jesus obedience that many can be made righteous. Romans 5:19 “For as through the one mans disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.”<\/p>\n 5. Hebrews 5:8 “though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;”<\/p>\n II. The Gospel was Given<\/p>\n 1. It was once a mystery, but now it is revealed for our obedience. Romans 16:26 “But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith”<\/p>\n 2. We must keep the commandments of the faith of Jesus–the gospel. Revelation 14:12, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”<\/p>\n 3. It is that which we MUST obey or suffer the eternal consequences.<\/p>\n 1) 2 Thess. 1:8 “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”<\/p>\n 2) 1 Peter 4:17 “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”<\/p>\n III. Salvation is available.<\/p>\n 1. It is the salvation that Jesus authored for our obedience. Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”<\/p>\n 2. We can know that we know Him through obedience. 1 John 2:3 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”<\/p>\n 3. Restoration of the tree of life is to those who keep his commandments. Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”<\/p>\n 4. If we love God we will obey Him. 1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”<\/p>\n CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. For Obedience of Faith . . .<\/p>\n 1) Jesus lived and died.<\/p>\n 2) The Gospel was given.<\/p>\n 3) Salvation is available.<\/p>\n 2. Invitation<\/p>\n 1) If you are a Christian but have fallen away<\/p>\n a. You have not been obedient to God.<\/p>\n b. Begin your obedience today because you will not taste of the tree of life without it.<\/p>\n 2) If you are not a Christian this morning . . .<\/p>\n a. You need to obey the gospel.<\/p>\n b.
