In today’s world of cell phones and speed dialing, our inability to remember may be caused by our reliance on these technological “gadgets.” Before the days of these “innovations,” we had to dial our phone numbers. The repeating of those numbers would gradually etch them into our long-term memory. Daily use provided constant review. I used to know all the numbers of my family and friends, but now with my cell phone, all I need to do is press one button.<\/p>\n
Letting a phone number slip our minds may be trivial, but keeping a mental grip on God’s Word is of the utmost importance. As we study the Bible, there are three principles of Scripture memorization that we need to keep before us: Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!<\/strong> (Hebrews 5:14).<\/p>\n By memorizing the Scripture reference along with the text, anyone who learns a verse and repeats it daily should not forget it.<\/p>\n The Psalmist said:<\/p>\n “Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. …. I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways …. I will not forget Your Word<\/strong>” (Psalm 119:11-NKJV; Psalm 119:15-16-NKJV).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n One of the purposes of Scripture memorization in our minds, is to have it fill our hearts and thus motivate our actions (James 1:21-25-KJV). Memorizing opens the mental door to God’s Word.
