We examine, ponder, compare, and finally make a choice based on what we believe is better. Can we imagine anyone saying, &#8220;I&#8217;m convinced this item is worse, so I&#8217;ll take it&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>The book of Proverbs is filled with comparisons that point us toward the right pathway in life. Because the book&#8217;s purpose is to give the reader knowledge and wisdom based on the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:2-3; Proverbs 1:7; Proverbs 8:13; Proverbs 16:6), it&#8217;s not surprising to find the phrase that says, &#8220;This is better than &#8230;..&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For example, in Proverbs 16, we read that it is better to get wisdom than gold or silver (Proverbs 16:16); better to be humble among the poor than to be proud among the wealthy (Proverbs 16:19); better to control our temper than to rule a city (Proverbs 16:32). While some folks have the ability to be both wise and wealthy, the Proverb writer says wisdom is the better alternative (Proverbs 4:5-8).<\/p>\n<p>As we read and study the book of Proverbs, let&#8217;s look for those signs that say, &#8220;This is better!&#8221; When we allow God&#8217;s Word to shape our thinking and guide our choices, we&#8217;ll discover that His way is for our benefit and <strong>always better <\/strong>(cf.
