For example, a football team”s star quarterback can hear 70,000 cheering and screaming voices if he does well by throwing touchdown passes “ or 70,000 booing voices if he fumbles the football on the one-yard line.

Sports figures can easily fall from the grace of their fans, because folks are fickle “ they are eager to follow the one who makes them feel good, yet willing to turn against that same person if all does not go well.

Scripture contains an example of fickleness that is far more serious. A great multitude in Jerusalem praised, honored, and cheered Jesus on the Sunday He entered the city riding on a donkey (Matthew 21:6-11). But just a few days later, some of those same people may have been in the crowd calling for Jesus” crucifixion (Matthew 27:20-23). On Sunday they worshipped Him, but on Friday they didn”t want Him around anymore.

Brethren, let”s not waver in our relationship with the Lord (James 4:7-8 – NKJV). Sometimes we worship the Lord heartily on Sunday, but the very next day we live as though we’ve never known Him (cf. Matthew 26:30-35; Matthew 26:69-75). Or we tell Him on Sunday that we love Him, but then we fail to obey Him throughout the week (Matthew 7:21; Luke 6:46; John 14:15; John 15:10).

Let’s not be fickle followers of Jesus, but allow Him and His teachings to permeate our lives and living every day of the week “ not just on Sunday (cf. Acts 5:42; Acts 17:11; Hebrews 3:13).

If we follow any kind of sports at all, we know that fans can change like the weather.
