Psalm 78:39; Proverbs 27:1) and the importance of our making every moment count in doing good (Acts 10:38; cf. Matthew 5:13-16):<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>I read of a man who stood to speak<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> At the funeral of a friend.<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> He referred to the dates on her tombstone<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> From the beginning to the end.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He noted that first came the date of her birth<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And spoke of the following date with tears,<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> But he said what mattered most of all<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>Was the dash between those years <\/strong>(scroll to bottom)<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For that dash represents all the time<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> That she spent alive on earth<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And now only those who loved her<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Know what that little line is worth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For it matters not, how much we own,<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> The cars, the house the cash,<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> What matters is how we live and love<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And how we spend our dash.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So think about this long and heart;<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Are there things youd like to change?<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> For you never know how much time is left<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> That can still be rearranged.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If we could just slow down enough<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> To consider whats true and real<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And always try to understand<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> The way other people feel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And be less quick to anger<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And show appreciation more<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And love the people in our lives<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Like weve never loved before.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If we treat each other with respect<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> And more often wear a smile,<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Remembering that this special dash<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Might only last a little while.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So when your eulogy is being read<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> With your lifes actions to rehash<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> Would you be proud of the things they say<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><strong> About how you spent your dash?<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Linda Ellis<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following poem penned by Linda Ellis, speaks volumes regarding the brevity of life (Job 7:6-10; James 4:13-14; cf.
