An unknown poet once wrote this insightful observation: As a rule, mans a fool. When its hot, he wants it cool. And when its cool, he wants it hot. Always wanting what is not<\/em><\/strong> (source).<\/p>\n

In reading Philippians 4:11, we wonder if it is ever possible to be completely content.<\/p>\n

Paul thought it was possible, for Philippians 4:12-13 NIV describes Pauls response to life:<\/p>\n

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Pauls relationship with God superseded whatever he had or didnt have (Luke 12:15). His contentment was not based on his circumstances, but on his abiding relationship with the Lord<\/strong> (John 15:7; 2 John 1:9).<\/p>\n

Paul reminds us that contentment does not happen overnight. As our relationship with God develops over time and through experiences, we learn to trust in God more than ourselves (Proverbs 3:5-6).<\/p>\n

Paul knew that Christ would give him the strength to persevere in whatever situation he encountered (Philippians 4:13), and He will do the same for us if we ask in faith without doubting (James 1:6).<\/p>\n
