The story is told of a treasurer of a congregation who resigned after many years of service. The elders asked another member to take his position. The man who they asked was the manager of the local grain elevator.<\/p>\n
He agreed to take the job on two conditions:<\/p>\n
1)<\/strong> That no financial report from the treasurer would be given for a whole year,<\/p>\n And:<\/strong><\/p>\n 2)<\/strong> That no one ask him any questions about finances during that one year period.<\/p>\n The church members gulped, but finally agreed on the mans conditions, because he was a trusted man in the community, and because of the fact that most of the members were farmers and did business with him at the grain elevator.<\/p>\n At the end of the year, the newly elected treasurer gave his report before the congregation as follows:<\/p>\n The indebtedness of $250,000 on the church has been paid, the ministers salary has been increased, and the mission quota has been paid 200% there are no outstanding bills, and there is a cash balance of $12,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Immediately, the shocked congregation asked, How come we have all of this excess money after paying all of the indebtedness on the church, bills, ministers salary, and mission costs?<\/p>\n The new treasurer answered:<\/p>\n Most of you bring your grain to the elevator. As you did business with me, I simply withheld 10% on your behalf, and gave it to the church in your name. You see, you never missed it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Brethren and friends, do we not see what we could do for the Lord and His church (and what the Lord could do for us) if all of us were willing to give the first 10% of our income to God who owns it all anyway, and gives us the power to acquire it?<\/strong> (Proverbs 3:9-10; Malachi 3:9-10; Psalm 50:7-15; Deuteronomy 8:7-20).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The story is told of a treasurer of a congregation who resigned after many years of service.
