If weve ever visited a large zoo, we are saddened when we see the majestic eagle confined to a cage. Its very difficult to see these God-created birds just sitting on their perches day after day, for they were created to soar to great heights to dance among the clouds not to be prisoners in a cage.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, some Christians are similar to caged eagles. They are made to live as free citizens of heaven (Romans 6:18; 1 Corinthians 7:20-22; Gal. 5:1), but they are imprisoned by their own sin (John 8:34; cf. Romans 6:16; 2 Peter 2:19). Their spiritually corrupt condition must break Gods heart (Deuteronomy 32:7-14; cf. Matthew 23:37-38). He knows what they could become, but they have placed themselves in a cage. And the irony is that it is a cage with open doors (Revelation 3:20).<\/p>\n
The apostle Paul said that we who have obeyed our Lord in baptism, have died with Him to the sin that confined us in our old life (Romans 6:1-4). And we are now alive in Him (Romans 6:6-11). We are not the same person we used to be (2 Corinthians 5:17). Therefore, we must stop making the same mistakes as we did before we became a child of God (Romans 6:12-14).<\/p>\n
Brethren, we need to think long and hard about the above truths and remind ourselves of them often.<\/p>\n
Through the willing and loving sacrifice of our Savior, we have been set free from sin! Like the majestic eagle, we were never meant to be imprisoned in a cage.<\/p>\n
Therefore, let us willingly confess any sin in our lives (1 John 1:9) and begin to trust in God anew (Proverbs 3:5-6), for we are made to soar like eagles! (Isaiah 40:28-31).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
