The following poem by an unknown author illustrates our need to watch less television and increase our reading and studying of God’s word (2 Timothy 2:15-KJV):<\/p>\n

“On the table side by side:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n

One is well worn, but cherished with pride<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Not the Bible, but the T.V. Guide.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

One is used daily to help folk decide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

No! It isn’t the Bible; it’s the T.V. Guide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As pages are turned, what shall they see?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh, what does it matter, turn on the T.V.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then confusion reigns; they can’t all agree<\/strong><\/p>\n

On what they shall watch on the old T.V.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So they open the book in which to confide<\/strong><\/p>\n

(No, not the Bible, it’s the T.V. Guide.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Word of God is seldom read.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe a verse before they fall into bed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not from reading the Bible, from watching T.V.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, then back to the table, side by side.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is the Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

No time for prayer, no time for the Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The plan of salvation is seldom heard.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Forgiveness of sin, so full and free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is found in the Bible, not on T.V.”<\/strong><\/p>\n
