A querist asks, “How does the Bible view an unborn entity found in a mother’s womb as a human being or merely a blob of tissue?”<\/p>\n

When Mary (the mother of Jesus) greeted Elizabeth (a relative – Luke 1:36), who was pregnant with John the Baptizer, Luke records the following response:<\/p>\n

“And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb…..<\/strong>” (Luke 1:41).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Greek word used by Luke (a physician – Colossians 4:14) for the term “babe” is “brephos” (Strong’s 1025) which can either refer to an unborn child or a new-born child (cf. Luke 2:12; Luke 2:16; Luke 18:15; Acts 7:19; 2 Timothy 3:15; 1 Peter 2:2).<\/p>\n

Luke also uses the same Greek word in Luke 2:12 regarding the birth of our Lord.<\/p>\n

Thus we see from the inspired writer Luke, that the entity which resides in the mother’s womb is indeed a human being<\/strong> a baby both before and after birth not merely blob of tissue as some uninspired humanists view it.<\/p>\n

Almighty God condemns those who would seek to take a child’s life before its birth (cf. Exodus 21:22-25; Proverbs 6:17).<\/p>\n
