In ancient times, men took pieces of wood or metal and carved or fashioned them into gods (Isaiah 44:9-20; Jeremiah 10:14-16; cf. Exodus 32:1-6,19-24). They literally fashioned gods to meet their own selfish desires.<\/p>\n
Similarly in todays society, man still shapes and fashions the true God into a god he prefers (Romans 1:21-25).<\/p>\n
Man mentally chisels and carves away Gods wrath and severity (Romans 11:22; Hebrews 10:31), making Him a god of love only.<\/p>\n
He molds and shapes Him into a god that accepts the very things He once rejected.<\/p>\n
Thus, in his own mind, modern man has fashioned his own god, and is no less guilty of idolatry than the people of the ancient world.<\/p>\n
Brethren and friends, let us flee from all gods of our own devising (1 Corinthians 10:14; 1 John 5:21; cf. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18), and remain faithful to the only true and living God (Mark 12:28-34; Acts 17:22-31; cf.
