In the Bee Gees song, I Started A Joke on You Tube, an individual (Ludwig1936 – see under “All Comments”) commented on the third stanza of the song (scroll down to middle of page), Til I finally died which started the whole world laughing I feel that way all the time. That’s when I wonder what in the world am I here for, cause I sure don’t know” (see an interpretive study of the lyrics).<\/p>\n
There are many people in our world who wonder the same thing as the above individual, because they really dont know why they exist.<\/p>\n
The Bible is the only reliable source that adequately provides us answers as to why we exist.<\/p>\n
We exist for two primary reasons:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1) For Gods glory<\/strong> (Isaiah 43:7) Because we have been purchased by the precious blood of Christ, we are to glorify God in our body, and in our spirit, which are Gods (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We glorify God, when people see our good works and glorify God which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16; cf. 1 Peter 2:12).<\/p>\n 2) For Gods pleasure<\/strong> (Revelation 4:11 KJV) Note the word “pleasure” in the following passages:<\/p>\n In Ephesians 1:5, Paul states, God has predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.<\/p>\n God has also made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself (Ephesians 1:9 KJV).<\/p>\n Then in Philippians 2:13 KJV, Paul states that it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure.<\/p>\n Conclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n As children of God (Gal. 3:26; cf. Romans 8:13-16), when we fully do (or obey – Romans 1:3-6; Romans 16:25-26) the will of the Father as expressed in the New Testament (Matthew 7:21; cf.
