They just might come back to haunt us (Matthew 12:34-37; cf. Psalm 32:9; Psalm 39:1; Proverbs 13:3; Proverbs 21:23).<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>My mother always said to me,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> (My training praps to boost),<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Beware of slighting words my dear,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> For hens come home to roost (meaning).<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ah! That was many years ago,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> But I have since observed,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> How folk with slurring tongues have reaped,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> The fate that they deserve.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>They have been well meaning folk,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Who never even thought,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> That to a heart already sad,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> An added grieve they brought.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Perhaps they saw a peg-leg man,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> And thought it was a joke,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> While he, alas went on his way,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> And bore his heavy yoke.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>As deaf as any post, they said,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Blind as any bat,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> As mad as any rabbit is,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Or unkind words like that.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The road is young, the way is hard,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> And youth will have its fling,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Scarce heeding in its joyous flight,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> What future will they bring?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>But hens come home to roost, my dear,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> It always seems to me;<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong> Tis well to give a little thought,<\/strong><\/em><br \/> <em><strong>On what your fate may be<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hope Spencer<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following poem is a reminder for each of us to be aware of &#8220;what&#8221; words we use and &#8220;how&#8221; we use them.
