The following poem is a reminder for each of us to be aware of “what” words we use and “how” we use them. They just might come back to haunt us (Matthew 12:34-37; cf. Psalm 32:9; Psalm 39:1; Proverbs 13:3; Proverbs 21:23).<\/p>\n

Beware of slighting words my dear,<\/strong><\/em>
For hens come home to roost (meaning).<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
But I have since observed,<\/strong><\/em>
How folk with slurring tongues have reaped,<\/strong><\/em>
The fate that they deserve.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
Who never even thought,<\/strong><\/em>
That to a heart already sad,<\/strong><\/em>
An added grieve they brought.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
And thought it was a joke,<\/strong><\/em>
While he, alas went on his way,<\/strong><\/em>
And bore his heavy yoke.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
Blind as any bat,<\/strong><\/em>
As mad as any rabbit is,<\/strong><\/em>
Or unkind words like that.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
And youth will have its fling,<\/strong><\/em>
Scarce heeding in its joyous flight,<\/strong><\/em>
What future will they bring?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
It always seems to me;<\/strong><\/em>
Tis well to give a little thought,<\/strong><\/em>
On what your fate may be<\/strong><\/em>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
