Roberts of Princeton Seminary once sat under a pastor who concluded his announcements, \u201cI am not going to take a vacation this summer; the devil never does!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Roberts went home and re-read the Gospels to see what Jesus\u2019 attitude is. He found that of His three years\u2019 active ministry, there were mentioned 10 periods of retirement! This was in addition to the nightly rest and the sabbath rest. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Whose example are we following? the Devil\u2019s? <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>5004<\/b><b> No Music In A \u201cRest!\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>\u201cThere is no music in a rest, but there is the making of music in it.\u201d In our whole life-melody the music is broken off here and there by \u201crests,\u201d and we foolishly think we have come to the end of the tune. God sends a time of forced leisure, sickness, disappointed plans, frustrated efforts, and makes a sudden pause in the choral hymn of our lives; and we lament that our voices must be silent, and our part missing in the music which ever goes up to the ear of the Creator. How does the musician read the \u201crest\u201d? See him beat the time with unvarying count, and catch up the next note true and steady, as if no breakingplace had come in between. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Not without design does God write the music of our lives. Be it ours to learn the tune, and not be dismayed at the \u201crests.\u201d They are not to be slurred over, not to be omitted, not to destroy the melody, not to change the keynote. If we sadly say to ourselves, \u201cThere is no music in a \u201crest,\u201d\u201d let us not forget \u201cthere is the making of music in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal align=right style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt; text-align:right;line-height:normal'>\u2014Mrs. Charles Cowman<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>5005<\/b><b> When Spurgeon Slept Continuously<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>After speaking on one occasion to a gathering of 23,654 people in the Crystal Palace, C. H. Spurgeon returned home. One of his biographers states:<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>\u201cThe exertion of preaching to such a huge audience must have been great, although C. H. Spurgeon tells us he did not at the close feel conscious of any unusual fatigue. But that Wednesday night he went to bed and slept continuously until Friday morning, an experience he had at no other period of his life. All through Thursday Mrs. Spurgeon went at intervals to look at her husband, but finding him sleeping peacefully she wisely let him rest until nature should be satisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>5006<\/b><b> Apostle John\u2019s Example<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>There is a beautiful and picturesque legend relating to the Apostle John. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>John, we are told, had a tame partridge which he cherished much; he amused himself with feeding and tending it. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>A certain huntsman, passing by with his bow and arrows, was astonished to see the great apostle, so venerable for his age and sanctity, engaged in such an amusement. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>The apostle asked him if he always kept his bow bent. He answered that in that way it would be rendered useless. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>\u201cIf,\u201d replied John, \u201cyou unbend your bow to prevent its being useless, so do I unbend my mind for the same reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>It may be, reader, that you should follow John\u2019s example, and relax once in a while. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal align=right style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt; text-align:right;line-height:normal'><i>\u2014Prairie Overcomer<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>5007<\/b><b> Lesson From Swimming<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>One of the essentials of a good swimming stroke is that it be one that provides a rest period. No matter how efficient may be the pull with the arms, or the kick with the legs, unless there is a regular time, however brief it may be when the arms and legs can rest, the swimmer soon becomes exhausted. The car-washing equipment has been installed at the Okahumpka service plaza near Wildwood, the northern terminus of the turnpike. At the precise moment of the onset of sleep, the spoon slips from his fingers, clatters onto the plate, and he snaps awake. Dali claims that he is completely refreshed by the sleep which occurs between the time the spoon leaves his hand and the time it hits the plate. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal align=right style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt; text-align:right;line-height:normal'>\u2014William C.
